Replacement windscreens and rain/light sensors?

So if my screen should need replacing, what are my options bar letting the insurance send out an Autoglass monkey? Is it within my right to insist that Ford replace it?

That may well depend on your insurance company, when I had National Windscreens repair mine my insurance company (Flux) recommended me a couple of options but didn't say I had to take them.

Sounds like a nightmare paradigm, I hope you get it sorted soon.

Well, Audi have got it today (dropped off at 07:30), let's hope this is the end to it all!

On the bright side, Audi have given me a new toy to play with and review. I've got an A1 1.4TFSI S-Line S-Tronic, which packs a nice 182PS into a 1.1 tonne car, feels very spritely and picks up very well for a small engine. Has a lovely growl to it as well.

Obviously the first thing I noticed was how cheap the doors felt (interior side) compared to the A6, and that there wasn't as satisfying a "thud" when you close them. It is however a very well specced little thing, and this particular model is very nicely trimmed also, black and red leather, pseudo-leather up the doors, it has most of the options ticked from what I can tell too.

I'll do a proper write up of it before I give it back.

Finally sorted, picking it up later today.

I was right all along, there was a break in the wiring inside the headlining, this had shorted out and blown a fuse also.

Whilst I could have sorted the fuse myself, the wiring repair (and more importantly, the removal of the headlining) I wouldn't have wanted to tackle, and at least this way, if it now rattles to death, I can take it back.

As far as I can tell, it's just been repaired as opposed to replaced. I think I'm happier that way, as it means the entire headlining hasn't been removed, less chance of a rattling.

I had my windscreen replaced by Autoglass last month and it all seems ok... although thinking about it now, I think my sensor is not as sensitive as before?? Or maybe I'm just thinking too much :p

I had hassle with Autoglass when they changed the screen on my ST220, two broken plastic trims down each side and a rain sensor that has never worked as well as the original one :(

Neil.

I recently spoke to a small, local windscreen fitter out on his travels about getting the Clio screen replaced as it is scratched to hell (fine crap from **** wipers at some point, I guess).

He said as long as my insurance company were happy to deal with him, he'd make sure the claim would go through (I was unsure if light scratching was grounds for windscreen replacement), but these experiences make me think twice about using a small firm.

So is it likely my insurance company will authorise new glass for the damage mine has?

Only way to know is to ring them and ask them

But if they say no you are a bit stuck.

They wouldn't be believe you if somebody accidentally dropped a brick onto it the next day to ensure they replaced it ;)

Exactly, hence my predicament.

Perhaps I'll just have to take the risk with the local guy.

If it wasn't for the rain and light sensors, I would not care.
