Replacing a Logitech MX1000

You mean they sent you the MX5500 free after a bit of nagging? Interesting. I would rather be stuck with an intermittent mx3100 than a mx3200 tbh, my housemate has one and i find the whole thing really lacking the quality of normal logitech kit. The mouse is unresponsive (and not rechargeable), the keyboard isn't as cushioned as mine either.
My argument would simply be, the MX3100 was the top offering from logitech when I purchased it, and it set me back £80, I want the top (equivalent) model again.

No nagging at all to be honest, I just asked if the MX5500 was available and they said they'd send me it. Did mean waiting a while for it to be released, but the fact they were happy to let me do that (rather than just send me whatever and get rid of me) shows how good they are.

Your argument should be valid though, the MX3100 was indeed the best keyboard + mouse set available when I bought it, so the MX5500 is a fair replacement. Been very happy with mine.

Varsh: I highly doubt you'll be able to get another MX1000, they stopped making them a while ago I believe. The MX Revolution is probably the most appropriate replacement, I went from an MX1000 to an MX Revolution (as above) though, and it's been fine.

Out of curiosity, are the MX1100's sensitivity buttons programmable? Or are they strictly set for DPI only?

Yes they are programmable, I found a workaround to allow this, I created a thread on it: http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/board/message?board.id=general_mice&thread.id=20310

I've had the MX1100 for a while now and have to say it's a pleasure to use after the first week or two of getting used to the extra size over the MX Revolution. For gaming the default DPI of 800 is more responsive than the default MX Revolution DPI which funnily enough is 800DPI too but the laser in the 1100 is updated so this is probably why.

It's more inline with the MX1000 now but with the new wheel and batteries that last 10~ months.

The mouse feet also have a notch in the shoes to enable you to easily replace the feet, no more scratching the bottom when you decide to change the feet with craft knife etc!.

All in all a good upgrade form MX Rev. My initial issues were all resolved after the updated Setpoint software was installed with uBerOptions.

That's what I thought but apparently they still do manufacture them as they sell them with the diNova M+K combo. I managed to find this exact package, but in Spanish, for £50 (including P+P) brand new. I've just purchased it and it should come in the next couple of days, if not Monday. As it's Bluetooth I can use the KB for my PS3 and replace this mouse and most likely use it for the PS3 too.

Bluetooth is not very good for performance, you get lag. FastRF was and still is the best.

Only the keyboard is bluetooth and it will only be used for the PS3 so it's not important for it to be responsive at all.

Doh gave them a ring and they need a proof of purchase, which is all the way back home :(. Will have to wait for my mum to post it to me (no she doesnt understand how to email photos :(). Oh well, will hopefully get a mX5500 out of it.

I have a lovely Logitech G5, it is wired, so no need for charging, works lovely, and has programmable 3 step DPI speed sensitivity settings.

IN General use but what about gaming?

Again, just as responsive. Believe me, I was a bit worried about how it would be after seeing some of the poor reviews that the MX5000 set got, but it really is just as responsive as my MX3100 was, and in my opinion that was just as good as a wired mouse and keyboard.

Interesting!

If only logitech had a BT set for me to test with the new wheel though!

I assume my BT dongle will work fine with it?

Varsh -

I posted in the wanted forums needing a cradle for a mx1000 as mine is no longer working. Any chance you would want to sell it to me?

I will probably be buying a new mouse soon to replace my MX1000, does anyone know the weights of the MX1000/MX Revolution/MX1100(R) for comparison?

I say stick with Logitech, if anything goes wrong they have excellent customer service.

From their range I recommend a G5 if you don't mind wired. Best mouse I've ever had.

id have to agree with this.

brilliant mouse. mine lasted AGES and it was bought second hand!

i now have a newer one as i liked the old one so much.

great mouse

Well I got the Spanish MX1000 and the diNova for the £40 brand new and absolutely loving both of them. Only thing which is annoying is that the mouse wheel clicks each turn compared to my old one but that I can live with. The mouse did turn out to be BT though seems to be more responsive than my RF MX1000 so I have no quibbles there.

I can see why this kit's RRP is £180.

I don't get how everyone through out this thread has knocked the MX Rev. I've got one and a diNovo Edge. Love them both. Don't seen to get the lag via bluetooth that someone said. The Mx Rev is more than sensitive enough for me.
Can easily change all the buttons. I think they're great. I don't need to charge my keyboard more than once a month and OK the battery life isn't great for the MX rev. (They keep saying its got 14 days... more like 14 hours of solid use) But just remember to put it in is craddle at night and its fine. If you forget one night, you've got 2 days or a few hours and it's fine. Thats my only niggle.

Another g5 lover here. I have the blue 2007 edition which has various minor upgrades.
My only quarrel with it is the braiding, my wires got kinked and the braiding trapped it so in the end I've had to cut it loose in about 4 different places. But nonetheless best mouse I've used.
