Hi Guys,

Complete noob when it comes to electronics.

I need to replace some capacitors but do not have the exact same capacitors to replace with.

can i replace a

16v 1500uF with a 35v 1000uF ?

Will there be issues ?

as i say i dont know anything about this.

Its from a TV

Having a higher voltage will not be an issue (higher voltage rating means it can deal with more volts not that it must run at said voltage). However the replacement will have to be 1500uF as we don't know for sure how important the capacitance value is in the circuit.

tl;dr the replacement must have 16v or higher voltage rating and exactly 1500uF capacitance. Somewhere like farnell or RS should sell something that will fit the bill.

EDIT: Forgot to say I have a feeling that that cap is polar so it makes a difference which leg goes in which hole.

DISCAIMER: Follow my advise at your own risk.

You should aim to replace it with a cap of the same capacitance. Without knowing the exact application circuit I'd make sure the replacement was a s close as possible to the original. As long as the voltage rating is at least 16V it should be fine.

Also, make sure you get the polarity right.

higher voltage shouldn't be a problem but a higher capacitance almost certainly will.

RS-online stock number 708-3651 should do you nicely though.

cheers guys, guess i am off out to get some new capacitors then :P

on RS they are out of stock :(

will carry on the search

farnells

Total = £1.10

"Credit / Debit Card: The minimum Credit / Debit Card order value is £20.00. Please click here to add more items to your shopping basket. "

:(

If you have 3 x these caps then you can easily get 1500.

Simply place 2 of the 1000 caps in series which will give you 500 then add that series of caps in parallel with another 1000 cap. bingo 1500uF cap :-)

That's annoying, I bought a ribbon cable from them a year or two ago for about £4 and that limit wasn't in place then!

why in gods name would you go through that hassle when a proper replacement cap is so affordable?
