Replacing "expired" and discontinued wired smoke alarm

I'm not 100% sure how other Brigades operate, but here in Wales you can go on our website and request a Home Fire Safety Check, we'll come around and fit new alarms (normally 2 smoke, 1 heat and 1 Co2) these are Battery powered, with a 10 year life, but if they needed replacing all you need to do is ring.

Maybe worth ringing the local station and asking? just an option.

As others have said, there is nothing interlinked with that dectector, so you'll not have any issues changing to any make of mains+battery detector. Personally I'd get an aico Ei146e, you'll be done in 15mins

By way of update, and being a pedant, I did a couple of checks before I chose a solution.

My home insurance provider, Admiral, don't even have a requirement for smoke alarms, so I can do what I want.
My freeholder, Sovereign Living, have a requirement as part of my lease, that all electrical work needs doing by a qualified, certified electrician.

Now, I could change the alarm and rewire it myself, but given that I don't want to pay an electrician o do it, I will leave it as it is (with a new battery), and just add a second battery-operated smoke alarm nearby. I know there are placement rules to follow.

I haven’t seen the working of your lease but I would expect that is relation to electrical installations - E.g. having a new socket added to a circuit.

What you are proposing doesn’t doesn’t count as an electrical installation in any way shape or form. You are just replacing something like for like, it’s no different to wiring a plug.

Just change it and I would not worry about your freeholder.
