Replacing IX35 with another SUV....be kind!

Just looked at these sort of cars for my father. The one we settled on in the end was the ford kuga 1.5 ecoboost. The trim levels are pretty generous and with ford direct you get a good saving on one a few months old. The thing that helped swing it was you can extend the ford warranty for three years for £800, which gives him 5 yrs 4 months on it. He got a titanium X sport for £21k with 4 k miles on it (list price just under £35k, not that it's worth that). The economy isn't far off his old 2.0 TDI touran and this one is AWD with 180bhp.

You have a pretty good budget, why not go for a range rover sport 3.0tdv6 or discovery. Treat yourself, all these economobiles look great on paper but are ultimately just depressing and painful. Of course I'm talking used by a few years but they're likely to suffer less depreciation in the long run.

He's looking at brand new Peugeots with small engines. Do you really think an old Porsche is going to offer the ownership experience he wants?

The new XC60 next year looks promising.

Realistically I don't think anything is going to offer an upgrade to what you have without spending quite a bit more money.

Lol, thanks for the replies fellas.
As you knowledgeable guys can see, i'm not overly savvy when it comes to cars.
Having thought more last night, realistically the budget ought to be around £25k max. I have been look at ex-demonstrators etc and 1 year old cars to reduce the cost.
I really do like the look of the new Peugeot 3008 coming out in Jan. I even like the current model which seem to be very cheap considering the spec load on them. Some reviews did hint to low resale value though.

I get the comments about staying with an SUV means i won't get a fast or fun drive unless i buy big/expensive so to speak. I'm just bored with the IX35 so i want a change i guess.

Ive ordered a XC60, as it was the most premium feeling SUV, it was a company car so CO2's were the name of the game.

I looked at the CX5,X-trail,Tiguan,X3,CRV and Outlander. Q5 i discounted as it felt no different to my current A4, and i wanted something a bit different.

CX5 was the better car to drive,X-Trail the best equipped, X3 just felt cheap and the CRV just felt old.

Phev had interesting tech, but it was a poor quality car and really really handled like a boat. The new Tiguan looks nice, but again quite a cheap feeling car, lots of hard scratchy plastics inside.

If it were my own money, it would be a CX5. But really i'd save my pennies and see what the new 5 series estate/E class Estate bring to the fold, but i guess it will be a year or two before they hit the 25k mark.

I did look at KIA and Hyundai, and they are nice cars, i certainly wouldnt say any of the other SUV are going to be significant better unless its a Q7/X5/F PACE, but you are talking serious sums of money. IMO to spend 25k on a pug is madness.

Your XC60 love continues to baffle me wohoo. I once turned one down as a rental car :p

:( :p To be fair i will be 40 next year.

I had one on long term demo, and i cant say i share your dislike. The infotainment was as good as my Audi. I dont expect to handle like a car, but ride and comfort were very good (it was rediculously comfortable) and the engine was so much better than the lethargic 2.0 in my A4. I think it looks good in R design trim aswell. It was either the Lolvo or MPV this time round, nothing else could accomodate the sprogs aswell :P

Timing was terrible this time around as the new 5,A6 and E class est's arent out yet. As thats where my money would have gone

So, also, the scaremongering from certain dealers about diesel has been around or a while now with the adding of the 'blue' stuff(?)
Is buying a diesel car to keep for the next 3 years not an issue?

And how do you know that you won't get bored of your next SUV in a few months time?

A £30k Range Rover Sport will be old, expensive to run and horribly dated inside, given they came out 11 years ago.

Not at all, £30k will get you a 2011 on model when they made loads of improvements internally, externally and new techy bits, mine has adaptive cruise control for example.

If the OP is talking about economy though, definitely avoid!

  1. Ford Kuga (way overpriced for crap economy)

Silly question but what do you call crap economy?

And is that the Ecoboost or the Diesel?

Only asking as I have a Kuga AWD with the 180Ps 2.0Ltr Diesel Powershift and I am perfectly happy with the 38-40Mpg I am getting so far, Only got just over 4k on the clock.

OMG, you're happy with 38-40mpg?
Wow, no mate, I get about 46mpg from mine and considering other similar marques can do much better.....that's why I'm looking around.
Each to their own buddy but seriously a ford costing that much with that little mpg? No thanks, madness if you ask me.

You can't just blindly throw MPG figures around without at least knowing what type of driving is giving those figures!
