Replacing Logitech Z-680 subwoofer

I found the specs of the Kevlar woofer on the bay and it's actually fairly compatible. I checked on the modelling software and it responds similarly when placed in the same box as the Logitech. It's missing a couple of mm xmax off of the Logitech sub which means your maximum bass output will be slightly reduced but it's not a big deal.

Ensure the driver is fitted airtight with whichever one you choose.

thanks for the reply. can i ask what do you mean by missing a couple of mm xmaxx and also how would i fit it in so thats its air tight as thought airtight is when the box doesnt have a port in it, this one has

The only air "leak" is to be via that port. If your lucky the new driver might have a sealing gasket supplied, if not you can try it without or purchase weather sealing tape (I believe its called?) if it's not satisfactary.

Xmax refers to how far the cone can move in and out, "excursion" is the X, max is simply the maximum it can move. A driver of a given size is louder if it has more Xmax capability. The ebay unit is 5mm (each way), the original was 7mm. This is quite a small difference though, unless you play it at full a lot. Drivers can go beyond Xmax to unknown degrees but distortion becomes noticable. At some point the driver will damage itself if pushed too far, this will be very audible!

dr em ataro has offered me the sub from a creative S750 speaker package. seeing as this retailed for £250 and the amp is similar watts to mine would it be a better buy then the ebay one and thanks for your help so far

I think it's an OEM driver so theres no publicly available specs for it to check. It is used in a similar application to the logitech though so it may work quite well (both small box ported designs, probably similar tuning). It's up to you really, I couldn't model it but if your being offered it for around the same price as the ebay woofer it might be worth a go :)

Bumping up an old thread.

Did anyone have success replacing the Logitech Z680 subwoofer speaker with a different woofer speaker ? My woofer is giving a crackling sound so I am assuming the woofer speaker is dying and I will need a replacement soon.
