Hi there,

My mobo died on my old machine, I got an exact replacement i.e. same model / make

Am I right in assuming if I install the new mobo I will not have to reinstall windows because technically nothing has changed?

What is the risk element involved that I could get a software error later on? i.e. 60% or less?

please advise

thanks

Not sure if you have to do a re-install, or if there is a percentage risk. However you should be able to recover your data if you do re-install windows, it saves itself in a folder called windows.old.

I'm not for or against it really. I was just saying that if you have to re-install windows your data, music, savegames etc., can be restored from the said folder. ;)

There shouldnt be any issues as your using the same mobo again, i had no such problems switching from an asus a8n sli board to the same model a few years ago.

I hear ya dave :)

Setter:- I was thinking the same however then I began thinking about diff mobo revisions or am I over thinking the situation???

Did something similar last year with my uncles pc, running fine without any problems without re-install :)

You shouldnt have any problems at all, i switched out 2 identical boards and it worked fine, i gave the system on to a friend and a while later the second a8n sli board also failed, he replaced it with an a8n sli premium (slightly different heatpipe cooling) and again there were no conflicts, iirc windows xp didnt even have to be reinstalled or reactivated.
