Replica watches?

Heres my new swiss ETA PO which cost me $159, amazing quality when you feel it in the flesh...has real sapphire crystal with AR coating also. You simply wouldn't get a genuine watch of this quality for less than £400 imo.

if that has an eta 2824 then its worth the money for the movement and case, tho i would scrap the dial and add a bill yao one,,sapphire crystals are about a tenner, for £400 you can get a hell of a better watch that is not a replica.

On the whole real Vs rep thing. Personally, i don't see it......[
Personally, I think it's down to what each individual wants. Like you, I don't see it. As far as I can see, the only reason for buying a fake is posing and that, in my view, is just a bit sad.

But ..... if that's what rocks someone's boat, and they want to pose, go right ahead. Just be aware that if you get rumbled, many people are going to think you're a plonker.

Sapphire crystals are NOT a tenner I assure you, I have bought custom ones to replace mineral in my PAM reps in the past. Plus its AR coated, and yes its a 2824. If there is a gen watch better for £400 please name it.

I have PAM here with a 2893 sitting in it....I'd put a pretty large wager on you not finding a better gen for less than £400.

ive given many links and advice on here regarding watches over the years, i collect-sell and am learning watchmaking ,trust me there are many watches better than that one for £400 ,i was talking about the cheapest sapphire crystals available ,ok i was abit off a flat one is the cheapest at £10.52 ,yes they do go up in price depending on what form you need ,they do not however cost that much in terms of what a watch costs in parts to build, heres a link to a supplier i use crystal

*like i said your replica is worth the money for the case and movement alone,i just think replicas look silly (my own view) ,the watch could be made a lot more ''unique' by adding a specially made aftermarket dial that is not trying to replicate a maker.

The original point about the crystal wasn't the cost, more the fact it is AR coated, something only seen on top end reps....which are usually a lot more than $159.

There is loads of 2824 power gens, for ~£200 by makers I've never heard of these don;t ave nice touches of working HE valves and AR coating.

I'll rephase and state that that there isn;t a sub £400 rep that I'd have over it, there is no denying they are very good value for money, providing you buy from the right place.

Not to mention I payed £250 for a 2893 powered watch, when you consider this movement gets put into £10k genuine watches unmodified...that is v.good value if you ask me.

I buy replicas because I like the look of the genuine watches, but can't afford them, why does that make you shallow?

Indeed....I know I'm going to sound like an arse here.....but I can afford genuine watches, well omega prices anyway, but with reps so good why bother?

If someone asks I always tell the truth, I think they are always more flabbergasted at how good reps can be (and never believe it is) than if it was actually real.

I've also got a couple of scratches on my PO, would be gutted if it was real, dont really care soon as it only cost me £80......not 1500

EDIT: In fact I've just remembered I actually have a real Oris that I never wear, cost me a lot but I prefer to wear reps.

yeah i know the 2893 ,ive owned a few watches powered by this movement ,yes you can buy 10k watches with them in, i have also sold watches with this movement for £100 ,i think the high end watches that dont use in house movements are very confusing price wise for the newbie watch buyer, you can pay a grand for a watch with a 2824 or you can get one for £100 with the same movement (you can pick a pre made movement up for about £60 (i aint checked) unbuild about £40) ,like most things theres a blur between paying for name or mechanics ,the swatch group own virtually everything and supply most watch houses.

Can't argue with that.

But your crazy to be selling 2893 for that little, guys on the rep boards will pay a lot for that movement bare for their PAM's as it's so hard to get hold of.

Still I'll carry on with rep buying, my last sub cost me $109 new with a nice 2824....like you say the watch is barely more than the movement cost.

watch prices have gone ape so profits are very little these days ,i mostly deal with vintage watches ,valjoux chronographs i was buying a few years ago for 50 quid are now selling at 120+ ,thing is i cant buy then for 50 quid anymore:( ,vintage omega prices have gone ballistic, imo the best ones atm to collect and for the future pricewise are mechanical seikos ,vintage seikos are also fetching very good prices at the moment -if you can find them cheap at boot sales, esp the divers models and old chronos.

Personally, I wouldn't be happy with a replica just because I knew it wasn't the real thing. IMO that's the point of luxury goods such as this - plus, imagine the embarassment of being rumbled.

You can only get embarrassed/rumbled etc if you pretend it is anything but a rep and you have to be pretty sad/deluded to do that.

I'm very open about wearing reps, in fact when I get a new one I always show all the guys in work, they are always genuinely impressed reps of such quality even exist. As are most people when I show to the extend a lot simply refuse to believe me, they think of reps as the dodgy market rolex/tags you see on holiday.

I've even had an Omega jewellers give my old 300M (they don't make these so good anymore) the once over while I was trying on real PO's. He flat out refused to believe it was fake till I let him open it up....got a free pressure test out of it too :)

I guess all you guys have mobile phones. why dont you just look at the time on those?

What is peoples obsesion with watches that cost lots of money that do no better a job than something from a cracker?

They're "nice things" - every capitalists dream. A Kia will get you from A to B, but surely you'd rather do it in a Bentley given the chance.

I couldn't agree more

How many times a day do i need to say to somone

"R U CMN TO THE PUB???"

I've found a watch I want to buy for $169 (about 95 quid), it's an Omega Seamaster aqua terra - silver+gold (gold dials and hands).

I think it looks mint, really clean and simple, clear back showing the movements etc.

It says it has a "W-1025 AUTOMATIC ETA 2892 FOR MAN" movement, is that any good?

Everyone in this thread has been saying about how good the 2893 is, this is 2892 is it the same one?

Well thats just a waste of tax payers money.

i guess the belgian courts had a quiet week and needed to fill their quota
