Request help for buying gaming PC (budget £3000)

I recently did some comparative monitor reviews. The results in the most basic form:

- G-Sync really works but comes into its own at lower FPS.
- 4K is pretty pointless. I couldn't really tell the difference between 4K and 1440p in a side by side gaming comparison. All it does is dramatically reduce performance.
- G-Sync > FreeSync
- IPS is worth it!

It was more a case of 2 x 980 ti's being overkill for his current 1080p monitors. That fully watercooled system that you suggested is really nice, but he would have no budget left for a higher res monitor unless he dropped down to a single 980 ti.

So as not to derail things any more I will leave him in your hands :)

Of course they do, but 2 x 980 ti's for a 1080p monitor isn't the way to go.
That's what we call "your opinion, pal"

What would you say is best?

1) Slight overkill on graphics = Enough performance to stay comfortably in triple figure FPS, even with maxed out detail. So that when he does upgrade his monitor he won't need to upgrade anything else to cope.
or
2) 4K on one 980Ti = 30-50FPS and having to reduce image quality to keep FPS smooth.

Personally I suffer from motion sickness pretty easily so when I was given free choice of any monitor I handed the 4K screen back and I have two 980Ti myself.

Besides all of this, it's much easier to change the monitor at a later date than it is to add a second watercooled graphics card ;)

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion :)

I would have suggested a single gpu if he planned on gaming on his current 1080p monitor. Something like a GTX 970 or R9 390. That would leave plenty of money for a gpu upgrade in the future (Pascal etc) and a higher resolution monitor.

If he wanted to go all out and spend the full £3K then I would have suggested a build with 2 x 980 ti's and a 1440p G-Sync monitor as per my spec in post #25.

Bear in mind this was before watercooling was suggested by yourself, which I had no idea the op would want as he made no mention of it in his opening post.

I also suffer from motion sickness, so I share your pain there ;)
