Resident Evil 2 Performance thread

The Mr X guy is spoiling the game/atmosphere for me in my Leon play through. Now all i hear is annoying foot steps and i can;t shoot any zombies or he turns up. Really bad idea imo.

Another good little optimization video, I've tried a few of the suggestions on my second run and can certainly see a little bit of a difference (Volumetric to medium, shadows to high, subsurface off).

I'm using a 980ti on a 240hz 1080p monitor at the moment and have seen around a 20-30% increase in places. I would say that the quality of volumetric lighting being dropped down to medium can be noticeable if you stop to compare, but not so much when actually playing the game. The others I've not noticed a difference yet.

I was already happy with my performance before, so this has basically allowed me to move the render quality slider up a little and reduce the aliasing and flicker.

I quite enjoyed it, but it was annoying a few times where I had to wait a while for him to leave and if impatient he would come back and chase me again as I did not wait long enough for him to bugger of far enough.

I think Mr X should have only been in the B scenario like before.

You won’t enjoy Resident Evil 3 remake if they make it then, as nemesis chases you even more :p

I wouldn't ignore the vram limit as suggested in the video. I tried it and framerate instantly tanked fighting this boss in the lab.

You are the first person to say this, many say it makes no difference. Maybe it is those with more than 8gb. Like me, I have 12gb but the game wants 13gb and it is in red.

Yeah I just tested a bit more trying it using 8.5 gb of vram on my gtx1080 and I was running round coridors fine locked to 60 up until I fired my electric gun at a plant it was instant drop to 45fps.

When it's set to using 6.6gb of vram Im locked to 60fps all game

Maybe it combination of other settings im using but for sure it's tanking frame for me going over limit.

I disagree mate
Mr X adds more tension to the game. It also makes it harder to get to the secrets later in the game.

I thought them footsteps were great with volume turned up on my home cinema.

No health no ammo and just trying to get away never knowing quite where he is.

Really enjoyed that part of the game.

I just finished, I thought game was great.

I loved some of the RE games, RE 5 in particular. Not used to think stalking crap, game is great without annoying things like that spoiling the fun.

To each his own, but not being able to shoot and kill the zombies suddenly took away a large part of fun in the game.

I couldn't help but notice the name change, I take it your no longer working for AMD?

Matt it sounds like you started playing RE when it started turning more into a shooter. The game was always a horror survival game before 5 and the others ruined it. RE7 was a return to the original concept of atmosphere and bullet management. You were not meant to stand and kill every zombie with countless bullets. The amount of time I was out of bullets in the originals and had to run like hell past zombies added to the tension. The games were designed to make you feel unsafe almost all of the time. If you had full clips of ammo and could shoot everything dead that wouldn't happen. Mr x is there to add to this feeling.

You know that! I remember playing RE1 and 2 and literally bricking it. So tough and bullets were a rare find and storage was limited. A game you proper needed to think about before moving onwards.

Yeah, I think the issue here is you enjoying Resident Evil 5, which was a poor resident evil game imo. Unlimited bullets and action is not what Resident Evil game is imo. They found that out the hard way with Resident Evil 6 which is the worst one in the series.

I agree with everything you said, but maybe it was a typo and you meant resident evil 4, not 5. As good of a game RE4 was, it is where all the action rubbish started.

I wasn't a fan of RE5 tbh but loved RE4. Though I'm really enjoying get back to a more old school style of RE with this RE2 remake, playing it on hardcore as RE with out the typewriter ribbons just feels wrong.
Regarding the Tyrant I quite liked it, reminded me of playing Alien Isolation again which was basically that for the whole game. :D

I liked RE4 it was the step in the wrong direction that is for sure. But it was still grounded has a horror survival, after RE4 the series became a shoot-em up

RE7 come along and changed the series for the good imo

Am just happy Resident Evil seems to be heading in the right direction bringing that horror back.

Yeah 4 and 5 were not the same sort of game, they were great games IMO I loved them but as others said not propper resident evil that we grew up with.

Yea i left 4 because i quit enjoyed the game and it's still quit up there in many Resident Evil fans minds. I hated 5 and 6. A remake of Code Veronica would be good as well as that game was really good. Silent Hill games could be doing with some treatment as well as they were a close second in the horror gen for me.

Indeed, i would always be trying to save my big weapons up as i knew come a boss it would come in handy.
