Again on the difficulty front you miss the 2 best areas of the game if you don't play on normal!

Is hard better?

I would have played on hard if it was available.

NOTE: The Wii Edition North American version *ONLY* does not include Amateur or Easy mode. All of the other versions do.

Amateur ~ Exclusive to the Wii Edition. Unless you are having issues adjusting to the Wii Controls, I would say to avoid this butchered version of the game.
Easy ~ Some things are cut out like the Hedge Maze in the Castle and various other areas. I would suggest sticking to Normal.
Normal ~ Not too hard, not too easy. Plus, this is the complete version as the two easier modes in the game cut things out.
Professional ~ Beat the game once to unlock. It ramps up the difficulty a bit and provides some more challenges. At least we get something for beating it, eh? (The people who played the GameCube version know what I'm talking about...)

On amateur the game is a lot shorter and you miss a lot of key areas.

I must have played the NTSC GC version (the harder version of all the GC releases) on normal then, because i did the hedge maze when i completed it. :).

Bought this today (got it for £3.50 with a few trade-ins, some card points and a student discount from a popular high-street store). I loved the original on the PS2 and decided to get this because, aside from Strikers, my wii was getting little or no use.

I have to say this is some of the most fun i've ever had on a console, myself and a friend took turns in fighting our way through. However due to both of our weak dispositions when tense situations occured the shakes kicked in and our aim went to pot.

It's definately more challenging than the PS2 version due to the controlls - ok its easier to line up a headshot early, but the motion of pressing the button throws your aim off thus making large amounts of enemies difficult to deal with. However this adds so much more to the game i cannot come close to describing it. If you own a Wii, buy it, don't ask why, don't ponder it, just buy it.

Have you played the proper resi games? Go but Resi1 and Resi 0 for the GC for about £15 the pair if not :)

Just to add that I played for first time on my GC that i got on the weekend (cant afford a Wii :( ) and it is seriously one of the best games ever made. I have been playing games for a long time too!

Well i've played all the original resident evils on the PS1 (resi 1, 2 and the one with the guy in black chasing you - forget the name). I was fine with those, to be honest i think its just because i'm getting old.

[Edit] Ah it was resident evil 3: nemesis and now i think of it i played resident evil: Survivor too, but that was awful.

Your post has basically sold me this game. I want to buy it but I'm currently hammering dead rising and that's giving my undead fix at the moment.

Maybe I can find a stack of trade ins like you did.........

resident evil 4 - wii edition

Arrived Monday, i wanted to put it through it's paces before i posted anything

I have to say i am very impressed so far, so this review is written with some bias as i did have a lot of fun and i dont want to do the game injustice.

If you played the original Resident evil 4 then you will already know the story as it is another port with no additional content, but to be honest i would recommend getting the game anyway as the controls make the game so much more involving.

You view the game in the same third person, and when you pull out your weapon the camera zooms into the combat mode. The best bit about the game is the little touches, you aim with the wiimote just as you would on Zelda with the bow, where you point is there the little crosshair goes, the difference however is the fact that where you shoot the enemy does matter If you shoot the zombie in the knee they fall to the ground and start scrambling towards you. In true resident evil style te best scenes are where there are crowds of zombies charging you and you desperately try and mow down as many as you can in one shot because your low on ammo.

Movement is done using the analogue stick on the nunchuck, and you enter the "aiming mode" by pressing B at which point the laser sight comes on and you shoot where you aim as mentioned previously, reloading is done by shaking the remote. It is extremly fun but it does make the game somewhat easier because of the fact you can aim preciesely where you want (bane of being a direct port i guess).
Your knife has a auto aim mode so you dont need to aim with that, you attack people with melee weapons by swinging the wii remote in a slashing motion (altho like Zelda the movement is scripted so its the same strike, but considering it is auto aimed this isnt really a issue imo). Another touch i did like was that reloading and slashing sounds come out of the wiimote adding to the enviroment further iniviting you into the game.

One thing that was changed was that the cut scenes are no longer pre-rendered videos, they are game rendered scenes while this does make the game look more consistent i did personally prefer the pre-rendered ones as they looked prettier. But that is just personal preference.

In summary, this game is worth playing for the added freedom brought to you by the controls it has the same great story as the PC and PS2 versions, and the added effect of the wiimote fits in well rather than as a tacky afterthought.
As far as negative comments go so far it does seem a lot easier than the days of Resident evil on the playstation due to no new content being added or difficulty adjustments to match the new control scheme.

I think at the moment this is the best game on the Wii for the genre, if not the Wii full stop, surpasing zelda simply because of the more intuative and better implemented controls.

Mortal Kombat when i get time as that arrived yesterday :D, will give it a go and report when i get time

Even thou I have completed this so many times on GC and PC, I think I gotta pick up a copy of this for the Wii, I do love the game!

And my 360 is at MS for the second time, and I wouldn't mind having something else to play with (easy!) and I think RE4 on the wii could be a good choice!

well this is the first resident evil game I have every played and OMG it was so good. Even though it may not have the graphics of the PC or the 360 this is brilliant although I am sure there is some part of the story I am missing between the lead characters it doesn't seem to matter too much.

the atmosphere that this game generates is like no other I have played.

Although many of the puzzles were very easy to solve it didn't detract from the overall quality of this game.

Think I may have to play it on professional just so that i can get my hands on the new weapons it unlocks.

All in all a top game and one that has meant my 360 hasn't been touched since I go this.

dave the rave 2:

This contains some spoilers if you plan to play the old games, if not here it is:

Leon is one of the two playable characters in Resident Evil 2, he was a racoon city police officer on his first day when the virus broke out in the town. He survived (obviously since he's in Res 4)

Wesker iirc is a NPC in Resi 1, he was on of the STARS agents sent in to investigate the mansion, during the course of the game he was broken away from the squad, and then you find that he was infact involved with unbrella and thus, a bad guy.

Ada Wong was a a NPC (sort of) in Resident Evil 2, she accompanied Leon during his escape from Racoon City, however towards the end she injured and presumed dead due to risking herself to save Leon.

So yeah, the backstories of those 3 characters go all the way back to resident evil 1, so its not surprising some parts didnt make sense to you.
