What's the difference between CV and CVX?

I used to have the original DC version, and now I'm thinking of picking up 'X' on the PS2. But what are the differences between the two versions (if any)?

Code: Veronica X

Resident Evil Code: Veronica X (Biohazard Code: Veronica ~Complete Edition~in Japan) is an updated version of the original Resident Evil Code: Veronica released for the PlayStation 2 and Sega Dreamcast in 2001. A third version of the game was released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2003.

Code: Veronica X is almost identical to the original in terms of gameplay, the only major difference being having to find a serum for Claire after she is rescued with Chris in the mansion, where they later fight Alexia for the first time. It also features nine minutes of additional cut scenes spliced into the main game, as well as mild graphical changes.

The updated "X" versions had the "character introduction captions" at the bottom of the screen removed.

The original Dreamcast version is technically superior but CV:X is much easier to find and has extra content.

I got the Dreamcast version new for a fiver a few weeks ago, it's a great game and far better than Resident Evil 4 & 5! Really is the last 'true' Resident Evil game.

I only recently re-completed this with a friend... we used to be amazing on the game, thanks to completing a *lot* when it was first released.

Still awesome.

Code: Veronica X is the bog standard version for all PS2 and GameCube versions.

It is avaliable for the Dreamcast but was only released in Japan.

I always thought this should have been Resident Evil 3 rather than Nemesis which was more of a side step in the story.

What made the original technically superior out of interest?

No it was not, I had it on the Dreamcast. :\

Uhhhh....yes it was, and it was even mentioned in a previous post.

"Biohazard Code: Veronica ~Complete Edition~"

The first and original version came out in 2000. The complete version was 2001 in Japan-only.

Graphically, the Dreamcast versions were superior than the PS2 version i.e. sharper textures, anti-aliasing.

The DC version is not superior, it's just different.

The graphical differences between the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 versions of Code: Veronica are similar to those between the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 editions of Tecmo's Dead or Alive 2. The models and backgrounds aren't as clearly defined in the PS2 version, but the colors are more distinct and objects blend into the environments better. If you had to choose which version looked better, the PlayStation 2 edition would probably win by a hair, but both have their plusses and minuses. Either way, the game looks gorgeous.

I guess it is subjective then.

But the same can be said for Quake III and Unreal Tournament. They were very different graphically and content wise as well. Dreamcast versions were sharper due to it's higher video memory buffer but lacked RAM memory to run the larger maps, whereas the PS2 edition didn't cut anything but looked too cartoony.

And I definately remember Dead or Alive 2. The "Hardcore" edition that was exclusive to the PS2 had a lot of new stuff, only problem was the character models became far too plastic and shiny looking compared to the original releases.

You never said the complete edition lol just that it was japan only. But my mistake.

Regarding colours I guess you could adjust your TV set and find a happy medium, not to mention using the VGA cable, that would bring a big difference over SCART too. :)

In contrast I think it's harder to adjust your TV to make up for lack of anti-aliasing than it is to adjust for better colour. I'd have loved to have this on the Dreamcast but unfortunately my Dreamcast got boxed up and put in the attic and I presume it was then sold or chucked out because I haven't seen it for years! :(

Never... Resident Evil remake on the GameCube and Resident Evil 0 were 'true' Resident Evil games IMO and came out after Code Veronica.

It was after these games when they started messing around with the mechanics/style of the games.

Never played Resident Evil 0. That was the remake of the original Resident Evil wasn't it?

Edit: Looks like it was a prequel of sorts to the original Resident Evil. I never had a Gamecube, the controllers put me off!

This is great. Hardcore discussion about a game that came out 10 years ago. :D

I played CV twice on the dreamcast. Probably my 4th favorite Resi game.

Resi 2
Resi 1
Resi 4
Resi CV

:o Resi 2 is definitely my favourite. I played it through numerous times and eventually got that Tofu character, who was actually just a lump of tofu with legs and little hands who could only use the knife, he sucked. :(

Never played 3 but I think I might get it off Amazon or something, sure it can be had for peanuts nowadays. Code Veronica and 1 were good but none of them could touch 2 for me. I kinda liked Resi Survivor on the PS1 as well, the music was good and it was really creepy, that bald dude with the big trenchcoat kept appearing all the time and when you're only 11/12 years old he's scary as hell! :(
