Resident Evil : Code Veronica

LOL! :D

Just found a copy of Resident Evil 3 on Amazon, brand new for £129.99. :p

Who the **** would pay that? Think I'll take my chances with the bay, or just make an American PSN account.

I've seen Resi 1, 2 and 3 bundle for £10 at gamestation... second hand games and might be local deal only.

I think it's up on the American store, I'll try it that way although last time I tried the U.S store it was a pain in the ass. Going to town in a minute so think I'll have a look in the usual two shops that sell games.

Grrr, why do people insist on saying that Resident Evil 4 and 5 are NOT 'real' or 'true' Resident Evil games? They clearly are, because they share the same story, characters and they even are called.... Resident Evil :D

Obviously the style of the game did indeed change, but it just seems an odd thing to say to me.

As for the game, it was good, but it suffered from a ludicrous amount of backtracking, something that RE4 rightfully corrected. It also annoyed me that if you didn't run up some stairs towards the start of the game (there was another route down a corridor), you couldn't get the dart gun and some doors slammed and you couldn't go back :/

Resi 4 and 5 aren't traditional resident evil games that made the serious so popular. They are completely new resident evil games... in terms of gameplay that is.

Its just a sign of the times. Old school Resi probably would flop in todays gen when you have games like Gears and Dead Space doing third person so well.

Never played Resident Evil 0. That was the remake of the original Resident Evil wasn't it?

Edit: Looks like it was a prequel of sorts to the original Resident Evil. I never had a Gamecube, the controllers put me off!

It introduced the two character concept, as kind of seen in Resident Evil 5, but instead you had to switch back and forth between them to do different tasks.

I don't think I actually bothered to complete it, which I believe is the only Resident Evil game I've played which I didn't. Can't remember why, but there was something I didn't like about it.

The story has just turned into a crazy convoluted mess I feel.

The original few games storyline of a small American town that had a dark secret of a bio weapons lab in it which goes horribly wrong was brilliant. But they've just gone more and more over the top, dare I say it, very 'Japanese' in the way it's moved from Zombies to seeing characters with superhuman powers and stuff.

To me it just feels that it's so far away from where the original story is and what made that so good.

That's what I hate about it. It was fine before, the story was slightly believable but since they made the switch to Las Plagas or whatever they are called it's been absolutely over the top. Wesker throwing rockets at you near the end of Resi 5 is totally ridiculous in my opinion.

I preferred the older Resi's because they were more spooky to me, the environments were more believable, the enemies were scarier and more brutal, the guns weren't as effective, you had to properly conserve ammo and would often keep your best guns in the chest "just in case". With 4 and 5 I never really felt like I was surviving, it just felt like a much more arcadey, run and gun game to please the 10 year old's with ADHD. It's definitely taken a more cartoony direction and I think it's worse for it.

I've not played RE5, but how did the Las Plagas story convolute the original zombie plot? It was deliberately a completely different line, and made so as not to have an impact on the story from the earlier games (other than the involvement of Umbrella).

The reason RE4 went for a tangential storyline is because they'd already done plenty to bugger up the zombie plot in all the previous games, and so there was almost nowhere they could go that wasn't covered in holes.

Well, it still has the original characters in it, and they tried to tie it into the original storyline, so it's not a totally different storyline, it's just gone off on a different tangent.

Case in point though K1llswitch has hit it on the head, it's things like Wesker now having crazy powers and throwing rockets about and stuff. It just doesn't feel like a Resident Evil Zombie game... sure you had a few boss zombies where they had overdosed on the virus, like Birkin, Nemesis, original Wesker etc. Now though, it's a bit crazy superhero style.

Because 4 & 5 are so much different, for one they aren't scary at all, partly because they are more focused on action but they also lack a lot of the eerie atmosphere the old games had.

They should just bring back the older style but with tighter gameplay, similar to Dead Space, the gunplay in 4 & 5 was also terrible, the enemies bounce all over the sodding place and the weapon sounds are poor. It feels like a third person House of the Dead at times.

Totally agree with the gunplay. It doesn't feel anywhere near as satisfying as the older games in the series. It's very arcade like and it does feel a lot like a House of the Dead type game. The game they are apparently bringing out for the 3DS supposedly has gone back to having the traditional zombies so maybe this will be the game that some of us long time fans have been waiting for.

Well speaking of other Resi games, 3 is definately my favourite. Thing I loved about it was that it was set all over the city. So whereas the first game was mostly a scary mansion and the second was mostly the police station, the third game had both of those settings and many more (park, hospital, factory etc etc). It just felt like it had more variety. And I also loved 'automatic-headshot' magnum. :D Plus the 'mercenaries' mini-game was awesome!

Sadly when it was ported to DC they ruined it slightly by allowing you to pick Jill's outfit at the start by default without unlocking them, thus making part of the challenge redundant.

Oh and it has the cheesiest line ever at the end. You can chose to run to the chopper at the last second or stay and finish off Nemesis. If you chose to stay...

Nemesis : S.T.A.R.S!!
Jill : *points magnum at Nemesis* You want stars? I'll give you stars... *bang!*

lol :D

You've ruined the damn ending for me now!

:p

still got the original DC version :D

.......goes off to loft to dig it out.....

That huge spider under the frozen pond made me completely brick it first time I came up against it

I think I played all the resi games (apart from 0) to death, all awesome games. I probably played 4 the most as I was trying to complete the mercenaries game at the end. I managed to get the full stars with every character. I actually bought a gamecube just for resi 4. :D
