Hello.

Recently built a htpc (specs in Sig)
Tv model LG razor frame 550
home cinema is a LG bluray 1100watt

HTPC > bluray > tv

The problem I am having is it won't change to 720hd res or even 1080.
It's currently at 1024*768.

Is there anything I can do to get it to change. If I change it to any other res. It either dosnt fit to the screen or is mega blury.

Here is a full spec list of my tv.

Any helpnwould be appreciated.

Thank you :D

You wont get 1080p as the TV wont go high enough, 1080p is 1920 x 1080 yours from the spec above is 1365 x 768.*

You should be able to-do 720p.

But you will need to adjust the overscan settings in your gpu software, also I would connected straight to the TV.

*Edit: Seen the HDMI input section.

Hi, ok thank you. Would I get better sound quality if going direct to tv, as the tv is connected to bluray via optical cable.

Also. Is that the reason I cant get 720 because I'm going via bluray?

Also. What do I need to look for in and control panel for overscan ?
My tv had an overscan option is that the same thing ?

Thanks

Sound quality wise I admit I am unsure, but it would be worth connecting straight to the TV I assume your using HDMI.

Hi. The highest resolution I can choose is 1920*1080 and yes I'm using hdmi, I will try connecting direct see if that changes anything.

If 1920*1080 is the highest you can choose then I'm assuming you have problems with it not fitting properly to the screen. Can you see this setting in CCC?

If you play with this setting then it should be able to make the picture fit properly onto the TV.

I have looked and cannot see that setting :( and if it fits it will still be blury won't it ?

Strange, scaling options should appear up when it detects you're connected via HDMI.

Sometimes the blurriness can be affected due to the picture actually being slightly bigger than what can be displayed. A reason why they do this can be found here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/27/hd-101-overscan-and-why-all-tvs-do-it/

I would try again with the HTPC connected directly to the TV anyway in case it could be the home theater system affecting it.

Hi, ok I will take alook thanks.

Also. I have got it connected direct to tv at the moment.
I cannset it to 720 now and it sort of looks ok but txt is a bit blury. I'm gna have a play with some settings see if I can get it right.

I'm gna have Todo all this again in 2 months cos im getting a bigger tv lol

Hey. Havnt managed to get it to 720. It just dodnt look right.

Is there a driver for the tv or monitor for windows ? Mine atm is generic pnp monitor ? Should it be plug and play?

Any other suggestions would be great :)

Thanks

It might look a bit blurry because the pixels are stretched over a larger area than on a smaller screen.

The resolution is low for the size of the screen you are using which won't help matters.

I had a 40" samsung which was 720p and the text looked a little blurred, but movie playback etc was alright.

Using a 40" LG smart 3d tv now @ 1080p and the difference is amazing.

Just set it at 720p and squint your eyes a bit to read the text ;)

I've had similar issues as I use my pc as a steambox/console type.

HDMI quality is poor and its essnetially down to the TV (Cheapy 32inch Hitachi from ASDAs) I found DVI > VGA best quality and the closest resolutions that will fit it 16:10 are 1366:768 for 720p and 1680×1050 for 1080p. Essentially these are resolutions for 22inch monitors but if you go to the 1920×1200 which is true 1080 for 22"+ everything gets tiny and is unreadble if your sitting less than a meter away (or its my crap eyes!)

because 1080/720 are 16:9 you can get them to fit (720 should fit no problem) but 1080 is just out of screen and playing with scaling will give you a black edge.

Newer (2012+) TVs opperate more like monitors now so its not an issue but older models/cheaper tech isn't the same.

Hope this helps. Also if you don't have the options shown in the pic above download the latest ATI drivers not the drivers for the card maker for example I have a ASUS 7870 and they don't have the same options as the ATI release. From there you can 'force' the display to show things like 720, i had to force mine to show 1050.

I have tried setting to custom resolution and tried all in the list and the only one that seems to work is the 1024*768.

It says my native resolution is 1365*768 but I can't even set it to that ...

Propper blagging my head now lol.

No matter what I do. Or what ever res I select it looks crap :(

Is there any updates for drivers ext for tv's?

Also. I found overscan and that didn't do much either lol

Problem is - you've got HD REady, and not FullHD TV.

via HDMI you have access to HD resolutions only like 720p or 1080i (I mean HDMI port out of graphic card, or DVI to HDMI cable)
via DVI/D-Sub you should have access to other resolutions VGA/XGA etc, might be possible to create custom one (TV native), if there's no such preset in drivers yet.

Because it's HDReady, it's not recommended to use such screen as primary, you might use it as gaming or movies watching source with 720p (recommended) or 1080i (interlaced, but on LCDs it's not visible) resolution which WILL BE SHRINKED/STRETCHED anyways and some overscan/desktop resizing might be required. I've got HD Ready TV as well and my maximum desktop resolution is, for example, 1824x1026 (1080i mode) + scalling, otherwise some parts of desktop are cut which looks cra*py for any movie player (cut buttons, text etc).

I think I will just leave it at 1024*768 for now because I'm upgrading to a 60 full hd end of next month so that should be ok.

Appriciate all the help and suggestions and if I do figure out how toget 720 working right I will let you know.

Can you connect it via VGA instead? You will need to use a 3.5mm cable as well to connect the sound but it's the only way I can see to get 1365*768 working perfectly. Don't worry about the quality, it will be about the same as HDMI (Well, when HDMI works perfectly).

PCs and TVs never seem to play nicely via HDMI :(.

I used to have it setup that way on my old system last year, bt I found that the sound quality wasn't that good, and surround sound works better using the gpu and hdmi !

movies still look ok at 1024*768 so its not all bad lol

oh yea, hears a question for you, how come I can play games in 720hd and that looks perfectly fine ?
but desktop at 720hd looks crap.

:/
