I've got a mortgage free flat with broadband and a soon to be kick@ss PC (if I can finalise the damn spec). I'm thinking of chucking in my 60k a year job and playing mmorpgs. My only problem is how to pay the bills without taking some menial part time job. I work in I.T. (2\3rd line support) so it's tough to get a job working from home. I've only got a few k in cash which won't last too long. The flat is only worth 140k so downsizing isn't an option.

Anyone done something like this before, or have any advice on how to secure an income?

My advice is to lay off the mushrooms and realise you're going to need either a BIG pile-o-cash, or some parttime work to tide you over.

Or move to a cheaper area? could get a similar pad for less and top up the funds that way.

Yes, insane. Not quite the same, but on World of Warcraft I know this guy who actually chucked in his education to play it all the time, might seem like a good idea at the time but a month down the line and you'll seriously regret it.

Personally I would say keep your house and job and give up the RPGS TBH.
Go out and spend some of your money on enjoying the finer things in life involving getting out of the house - travel the world, try some fancy restraunts, go out and enjoy company of friends, go buy some expensive clothes, extreme sports or something. You get one life to play with so go do something with it.

I have done something similar in the past.

I retired at age 5 and decided that I was never going to work again and would spend all day playing with TCR and Action Man :D I was lucky enough to have very nice keepers of the purse looking after my every need and I didn't get bored until I was about 13 :p

Dammit, not even one post in favour of the idea.

You're a grown up, how do you intend to pay the bills for the next 60 years or so without a job? And who in their right mind would quit a £60k (?) job to sit at home all day playing computer games.

Yes I think its a fabulous Idea, I am in the same situation albeit sans cash, you clearly would need someone to back you up on your epic adventures, I will sign myself up for the wearysome task, room, board, food, Broadband a NEW Pc and subs to every MMO I fancy is all I require in exchange.

Sincerely

V
