Retro console and games thread

Any good tips for cleaning up the case on a Dreamcast? Mine has mild yellowing and a few bits of filth on it, but I don't want to destroy it by accident!

A damp cloth and some elbow grease should sort out the filth but the yellowing is usually due to a chemical reaction on the casing itself but the above website shows how to get your retro gear back to pristine condition.

Just found out why my N64 has got a big Apple sticker on it....someones name is written in permanent marker underneath it. Bad times :(

Long shot maybe, but this works on the white-boards at work - try writing over the name with a non-permanent marker then just wipe it off?

Those DC Streetfighter games are going for over £50

I think that because i've just started collecting retro stuff, i want to get anything and everything. As well as the Sness, N64 and DC i've also got my old consoles that i've had from new so i'm going to have to sort out what i really want to collect for and stick to it for a while.

One thing i have found out, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than collecting R/C model cars!

I've been toying with doing this to my Snes and Nes. Has anyone here actually tried it?

weekend ebay - when the idiots come out to play.

You're quite right. I'm being out bid left, right and centre at the moment. :(

Just noticed this thread and coincedently I started clearing my attic today. So far I have found:

Amiga 500+
Amiga 600 boxed
Amiga 1200 - viper turbo mod and 180mb hdd
NES
Super NES
N64
PS1
PS2
Dreamcast
Megadrive
Mastersystem
Atari Jaguar
ZX Spectrum x 2
ZX Spectrum+2

Boxes and boxes of mixed games for all them also. I'm sure there is more hidden away, including a lot of hand helds.

Do you think getting the upgraded memory for the Nintendo 64 is worth it? Is it some games that have improved graphics with it?

Thanks :)

What the expansion pac? For a few quid its essential, donkey kong 64 and majoras mask didnt run at all without it (some of the best n64 gaming there too) and perfect dark needed it to get most the game...

There's a fair few other later games that needed it, conkers bad fur day and banjo tooie I think but iv lost the boxes for them (aka I got the pre owned after the n64 was over).

Still play my n64 a fair bit  got a yellow pad to get my self through some of the classics (nearly done all of ott). Hope iv still got the box for bad fur day as that was nearly £30 in 2003...

Wow at the price of that second hand VGA box, I got this for £20 or so brand new.

I have about 11 games now, bought a brand new controller because the one that came with it was a bit tatty, have a sealed copy of Quake III, sealed rumble pack and VMU, bought a nice translucent green one for the new pad. :)

Picked up Chu Chu Rocket for 99p from Gamestation along with Sega Rally, got a brand new copy of Code Veronica for a fiver too. :D Had a lot of fun with Chu Chu with a few friends.

Shenmue set me back around £20 I think, the cardboard sleeve is tatty but the discs and plastic cases look brand new!

It might be worth picking up a copy of this months Retro Gamer magazine. It features an article on N64 collecting and a brief interview with someone who owns every single game ever releaed including 64DD!!

I've been collecting PAL N64 games for a while and have quite a nice collection but there still some games that i'd love to have that have eluded me due to price; Snowboard Kids 2 being the best example
