Retro console and games thread

Thanks, so you can boot Free Mcboot from slot 2 and still have all saves go to slot 1 automatically? I might as well grab a 32Mb card and put Free McBoot on my "official 8Mb" and use the 32Mb for an army of saves then.. Make sense?

Could do mate. There's a shed load of guides on the net on how to put in on memory cards. I wanted to do it myself but it ended up being cheaper to buy the memory card with it on instead of the USB to PS2 adapter and then a memory card on top of that. Let me know how you get on.

AMSTRAD CPC 464 TV CONNECTION KIT - PSU ADAPTER & ACTIVE RGB SCART CABLE

Well after my CPC 464 original monitor went bang on me, I ordered the above cable from eBay. It arrived yesterday and works perfectly. Image is crystal clear via SCART on my little CRT TV. Great sound from it too. Really happy with it.

Now to get back into Robocop!

I think I'm going to start working on my Megadrive collection. One I have always wanted is Gunstar Heroes. Now standalone it's like £65+ But cex have the classic collection 4 in 1 that includes this game for £22. EBay seems to sell this collection for £30-40 so would that be a good deal?

Downside to buying anything from CEX is you don't know what sort of condition stuff is in until you get it. Not a big problem if you have a local CEX to return it too, as their returns are easy enough to do in-store.

Sold my last Mega Drive game this week.

Not much stuff left now compared to what I had. Now that I've sold my Obutto Revolution sim rig and recliner chair I actually don't have anything to sit on in my game room.

Yea always a gamble with Cex. They do it cart only for £15, sort of only want it to play. But would go boxed for that little extra!

Also want thunder force, always wanted to try those. They have IV boxed for £20 but again could be awful condition :D... or amazing who knows

Decided to sell the racing SIM stuff in the end then?

Yeah it's all gone, I don't even have a GPU in my PC anymore. Nor a monitor. PC is currently connected to my Sony TV with the PS2 built in to it. It actually does a fantastic job when connecting RGB SCART to it. Which is good since I kept my Mega Drive, Mega CD and a few other consoles.

Glad you managed to keep what you have! Those tv's are awesome ;)

I figured the consoles I have left are worth maybe a few hundred pounds, so not really worth selling now.

I do still have around 120 PS2 games and 100 PS3 games, a few Xbox 360, Wii, GameCube and PS1 games plus a Sega EverDrive. As well as the consoles to play them on. So not quite out of the game altogether.

We have just started the process of buying the freehold on the house so it was worth selling up in the end. Maybe I'll get back in to collecting, but looking at what's available and prices people are asking, I doubt I'll get anywhere near what I had.

It's getting a bit messy isn't it, hard to tell how much something is worth at the moment especially when buying. Sounds like you have managed to retain a nice set of games and systems so that's great news. A hard choice to sell I bet but sounds super important and will be worth it in the end :)

To be honest, CEX prices are about the most reasonable. I was looking at their official Sega 6 button joypad price of £15 compared with eBay and it's quite a lot cheaper.

Yea tbh you can find a good deal on there. Well.. a deal compared to other sites and sellers like you say! I bought thunder force 4, will see how it turns up and if it's any good. Never really played shmups on MD and hardly at all since

Ahh TT4, I remember it well. Hard as nails but a great game
I haven't much experiance with the genre so hopefully I can get in to it :)

I love the megadrive, my first system but I must have missed so many essential games. I must have been 4-6 years old when I first started playing so exposure to titles would have been minimum out side of the obvious hits like sonic, streets of rage etc.

So hopefully I can pick up some must haves and see what I missed. Played Jungle strike last night, remember enjoying it but I doubt it's one of the best on the console by far. Harder than I remember but enjoyed it back then

Received Thunder Force IV, really good condition surprisingly. Fired it up quickly to check it worked etc and it looks great, music seems good too! Will have a go when little one naps later.

Should I invest in a Megadrive 1 over a MD2? I believe the sound is much better on the original? Could pick one up and flog mine for little loss? Would the same RGB cable work?

Maybe if you can get a "HD Graphics" md1 but i dunno if it's really worth it. As for cables, nope diff connector.

I went ahead and checked selling pages on fb and someone 5 mins away was selling an MD1 with the 50/60 Hz switch, jap switch and an overclock switch. Picked it up even if I didn't use the mods I much prefer the style of the MD1.

Just tried it with sonic at 60hz and oh my, what a difference. It also displays in proper full screen?

I guess this is how things were across the pond. Switching back, the music seems so slow!

Really like Thunder Force IV. Nice challenge. Managed to beat the first and get to the boss on the next.

Saying that, you choose an order which is Cool! I did the blue sky one first, Sandy one 2nd.

Pretty sure this pal cart has different region protection as it's not working properly in 60hz mode :(
