Grats on the prezzies!

Continuing the Metal Slug theme.
This turned up yesterday from Columbia. :D

Difficulty is definitely harder then the previous games, or maybe it's because I've played them to death.

Ah cool you finally got a real Slug 3, nice one! I got my Slug X from the same Greek seller as my Slug 3 a few weeks ago, so nice to have the real versions and not rely on the dirty multicart for these games. How do you store your MVS games? I picked up some of those neominiboxes and they seem ok for now. I find shocks just add way too much heft to an already sizeable cart. I really wish there was a plastic case for MVS cart that wasn't so massive.

I like my shockboxes.
Old Photo, I've got a few more since then.

Sure they're heavy and big, but the artwork adds a "home console" feel to them.
It's just a shame their not cheap and you have to get them from the US, I need another 14 at the moment. :(

Very nice collection there, nice AES games as well. I really want a copy of Magian Lord for the MVS. I'm kicking myself for not snagging up on the cheap a couple of months ago. Tell me about the shocks, I think to get 10 with artwork including shipping was nearly £120 + import tax :(

Very nice. I have a Jpn Sega Saturn and just about to buy a consolised SNK MVS so I'm interested in how you find the XRGB mini. Did you get the Euro RGB scart for your MVS and use that true outut into the upscaler? How do you find the image quality? Any noticeable input lag?

Cheers and congrats

I'm really impressed with the XRGB-Mini, the picture quality is outstanding and playing my NTSC SNES Mini (RGB modded) and Neo Geo Omega CMVS on it is a joy! I just couldn't go back to not using a scaler. The XRGB-Mini is widely regarded as the BEST scaler to play Retro systems on modern LCD TVs. The only negative points would be that each individual console needs to have the settings tweaked slightly and currently you can't save profiles so when you swap systems you have to adjust some settings such as sync level, brightness or V/H spacing. It is not a huge pain as between the SNES and NEO its just a couple of sliders. I'll get a new SCART lead for my Neo Geo with a built in Sync Stripper so I can use a HUB instead of swapping my adapters over.

I bought a pair of RGB in to EU SCART adapters from retrogamingcables. I have two versions, a simple pass through and the other has a sync stripper built in which is what I use for my Neo Geo. These are snaps from my iPhone and are nowhere near representative of how clean the image looks in person, I play at 720p with scanlines since there is a FW glitch that breaks scaliness at 1080p. Hopefully future FW updates will iron a few things out. I also had to buy a DC 5V 2.5A power adapter since the supplied one is 100v only.

Regarding input lag, its barely existent. The TV its going to is what you need to worry about and not the XRGB-Mini :)

Thanks for your very helpful reply. Sounds really good - you've convinced me! Can I ask where you got bought the XRGB from - I see a fair few on ebay of course but price and reliability are both variable...

You are very welcome. I purchased mine from Solaris Japan, the shipping was reasonable but I got stung with £40.00 import charges. I got mine with a D-Terminal to Component adapter so you can hook up Xbox, PS2, GC and Wii via 480p. The site is probably the best place to get one and is highly recommended. They are currently sold out but will get more soon. Whilst not cheap the XRGB-Mini is the best scaler and does make a massive difference to the image quality on modern TVs and saves you the space of having a CRT just for classic gaming. I'd rather play on a 40" LCD with the XRGB-Mini than a 20" CRT that takes up half the room, personal preference ;)

Here are some links for you to check out:

Cable adapters for EU SCART (defiantly worth getting the regular and the one with a sync stripper just in case):

UK PSU, I bought this one and it works perfectly with the Mini:

Oh and if you want to use a Dreamcast at 480p VGA then you can use this Gizmo to connect a VGA source to the XRGB (I'll pick one up later in the year):

Edit: Oh and another good resource for the XRGB-Mini :)

Edit 2: Oh forgot to add this as well, the remote is in Japanese but you can buy a very handy English overlay which I also bought, invaluable:

I hope that helps and I can't recommend the product enough, defiantly worth it if you are into retro systems in a more than casual way. I know this is sounding even more expensive but compared to what I used to spend on PC components...

Fantastic Lars888 - what a brilliant post, that's a great help. I've ordered the mini and D-terminal from Solaris and will report back on the results. The other links are a super reference - cheers.

RGB cable for my Mega Drive turned up today. :D

Before with antenna

After with RGB

Sorely tempted to dig out the old SNES and get that connected up as well. Going to need some kind of SCART splitter though, 2 only has 2 ports.

Hey Larrs888. Congrats on the xrgb! Its seems you are really impressed with it. The Omega looks sweet on it.

I've considered picking one of these up in the past but i just can't bring myself to spend the money on one. I'm a cheapskate lol. I think my worry would be spending the cash, but be disappointed coming from a CRT. I can appreciate people love to play on big screens but i actually prefer the smaller screen as strange as it sounds :D. I am a big enthusiast for picture quality though and there is no better way to play retro consoles on a Modern screen than through an XRGB.

I also think a good amount of research is required and an understanding of how the systems you want to use output their signals is very important as i'm sure you understand its not a case of just plugging your system in and you will get the best picture.

I'm pretty much done with all my systems now. I have modded all that needed modding to output RGB (i'm glad i will only have to do it once! Fed up of soldering!) and i got my CRT's calibrated and looking sweet!

And a few recent pictures of the the Famicom and Snes Mini looking sweet on the JVC.

Hey there, wow those CRT screenshots look amazing, great job on modding all of your consoles! I'd love to have a decent little CRT, the real deal in terms of retro picture would be really nice to have access to. I really miss the good old school light gun games and the Wii/PS Move nonsense where you move a cursor around the screen just sucks! I'd love to play some DC House of the Dead 2 and Virtua Cop 2 again :(

Regarding the XRGB-Mini yeah I have been doing my homework on sync, cable types and settings for each console. As I mentioned the lack of profiles and only 1 RGB input are probably the only downsides. I'm using RAW sync for my SNES Mini RGB that goes straight in but for my Omega I need to use a Sync Stripper otherwise the picture goes crazy. I also have to tweak the settings slightly in the menus for each system, although they are only minor. I know that 480p sources need some scaler adjustment as well. I'm planning on getting a sync combiner to get my Dreamcast sorted sometime before I upgrade my TV this year, for now its a custom VGA cable into an ArcadeForge SLG3000. Newer LCDs don't have VGA inputs, something that sucks if you love your Dreamcast like I do :( My 2008 LCD CCFL backlit Sony Bravia is a beast compared the new LED lit units and the heat mine gives off.....time for a new one and they are so cheap these days relatively speaking.
