Return 980 and wait for 980 Ti ?

So many conflicting view points, I'm seriously stuck on what to do.

On 1 hand I'm enjoying the 980 and it's performance, On the other hand I could get a refund, Put up with the iGPU on the 4790K for a month then get the 980 Ti with 30-40% extra performance and 2 extra gigs of memory.

Decisions.

I wouldn't even consider buying a 980 in the first place. They're over priced and way too short of VRAM to be considered a long term purchase.

Even with the extra .5gb of VRAM they're not worth the massive premium over the 970.

Even in SLI lifespan is notoriously dodgy due to the 4gb.

It's not even like you don't know what the 980ti is going to be like, given the Titan X.

980ti ticks all the boxes for me. Titan X power with 6gb VRAM, perfect.

Well decided to do it, As I'm gaming at 1440P the extra memory and performance could really come in handy.

I got it for £555 from a competitor so if the 980 Ti is £600 I'll only have to put £45 towards it as I'll only be looking at getting a reference type model, Hopefully it will be the same colouring as the TX :)

*EDIT*

Cancelled refund, Really can't be bothered with the hassle of refunds etc...

I'm going to keep hold of the 980 and just wait for the 1000 series.

By the time you get refunded and pay a restocking fee or whatever plus postage it'll probably end up not being worth it anyway.

On the up side you can grab a cheaper 980 for SLI from people upgrading.

If you're thinking of sending it back I'd swap it for a reference 980 and get some of your money back. The Matrix card looks great but it's unlikely to offer you anything over the cheaper reference model, other than slightly better cooling.

I'm waiting for the Ti to release before I make a decision. Haven't had a graphics card for about 2 months now :( If the Ti releases for £600 the 980 might not even see a price drop. I don't think the new AMD cards will budge the prices of Nvidia cards either. I remember last year when I was looking for a card the 770 was the same price as the R9 290 haha! Nvidia don't give a ****.

At 1440p you definitely need to find a way to get hold of a 980 Ti if Titan X performance is anything to go by.

I didn't find a single 980 to be enough at 1440. Some games were dipping to 40fps, and although Gsync did a good job of keeping it all smooth, I still ended up doubling up.

Given that my 980s outperform the Titan X, I'm not sure what people are expecting from this 980ti. As for vram, I haven't had any issues so far.

You're probably right to hold out and see what performance the 980ti offers, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

2*980 or a Titan X if you don't like SLI. That's about the only choice right now for 1440p.

Or a Titan X with half the vram and a much more stomachable price tag than a TX/980 SLI which the 980 Ti essentially is supposed to be. Obviously it isn't out now so that's where the waiting part comes into play.

Fair enough if the op wants to keep the 980 and just upgrade on Pascal though because he'll hardly be getting single digit fps at 1440p anyway.

I can't see a 980ti being a Titan X with half the vram. If that was the case, no one would buy a Titan X and Nvidia aren't that stupid. The grunt from a 980ti will be between a titan and a 980, surely? This means it'll just about play AAA titles at 1440 and 60fps.

It'll be a perfect pitch from nvidia, as always.
