Return 980 and wait for 980 Ti ?

Well decided to do it, As I'm gaming at 1440P the extra memory and performance could really come in handy.

I got it for £555 from a competitor so if the 980 Ti is £600 I'll only have to put £45 towards it as I'll only be looking at getting a reference type model, Hopefully it will be the same colouring as the TX :)

*EDIT*

Cancelled refund, Really can't be bothered with the hassle of refunds etc...

I'm going to keep hold of the 980 and just wait for the 1000 series.

You paid £555 for a 980... WHATTTTTT??????

I can't see a 980ti being a Titan X with half the vram. If that was the case, no one would buy a Titan X and Nvidia aren't that stupid. The grunt from a 980ti will be between a titan and a 980, surely? This means it'll just about play AAA titles at 1440 and 60fps.

It'll be a perfect pitch from nvidia, as always.

780ti was simply a titan black with half the vram ?

Currently in a...well sort of similar situation. Been on 1440p for nearly 2 years since my last upgrade, it's a 780 GTX lightning build which is still a beast of a card to be fair but I want to upgrade because of the VRAM (3GB) creeping towards cap in a lot of new titles. At launch Mordor actually caused it to stagger because of VRAM maxing out, the general GPU grunt could handle the game no problem on max (has since been optimized in a patch so this no longer happens). GTAV on full is using 2.8gb so its almost too close for comfort. I predict Witcher 3 will cause me problems.

I'm holding out for a 6gb+ single card, I don't see the point in going to 4GB only to face the same problem in another year / 2 years on 1440p.

If it was me I'd send it back and hold out for 390x or 980ti if you've got something half decent to keep you afloat. :D

Yep just sent the card back to the store I got it from for a refund after doing some thinking, 980 Matrix, £555, A tad bit high for a 980 me thinks :p

I have a 970 on loan from a family member until mid June so here's hoping Nvidia or AMD bring out their new cards by then :)

That's your opinion sir and fair enough. IMO they will release the Ti GM200 variant with at least the same core speed as the TX and half the vram. Expect to see higher stock and boost clocks from AIBs too. This is exactly what the 780 Ti was to the Titan and NVIDIA are pretty predictable when it comes to their milking exercises.

Awesome, good decision!

970 will be great in the mean time, as good as 780 performance or better :D

Fingers crossed we get some news on these cards soon!

I think a lot of people are hanging out now for 6GB minimum cards.

I know I am*, even running at 1080p, just so upgrading later on to 1440p would be possible.

*Unless I can bag a ref 980 for a bargain price when they start appearing on MM after the 980Ti rush :)

If my brother needs the 970 back before mid June I'll have to just go the full hog and get a Titan X instead of the 980 Ti although I think it would be a tad bit overkill for 1080P...... :D

Yeh its nice to future proof, I built a a rig recently for a friend's son and they where on a tight budget but I convinced them to squeeze the extra cash for the 4GB version of the 960 just to have that piece of mind for years to come.

Haha would be awesome if you can afford it, if I found myself in possession of a titan X I could be tempted to swing 4k direction :D

Well considering 980's are selling for £350 in the mm, I think that you should have waited. As soon as the ti comes out God knows what price they will drop down to.

I'm waiting for the Ti to release before I make a decision. Haven't had a graphics card for about 2 months now :( If the Ti releases for £600 the 980 might not even see a price drop. I don't think the new AMD cards will budge the prices of Nvidia cards either. I remember last year when I was looking for a card the 770 was the same price as the R9 290 haha! Nvidia don't give a ****.

Gibbo said in another thread that the 980ti won't affect 980/970 prices, so don't expect a price drop anytime soon. 980ti for £600? Wouldn't be surprised to be honest.

IF the 390x releases and it spanks the Titan X and/or is dirt cheap, then we might see some movement, but until AMD offer up some proper competition Nvidia will continue to charge what they think they can get away with.

My 680 was starting to struggle a bit and of course the upgrade itch had to be scratched!

Thought I would take the gamble with an EVGA 970 and then use the 90 day step-up should a 980ti rear it's head and be worth it. If not, the 970 is a great card, even at 1440 and the price of a second one would only go down from then on.

That and 2 free games at the mo :)

kaap ive noticed you have put up a few elvis vids, i now have a image of you doing all your gaming dressed in a white spangely jump suit with elvis greatest hits playing on a loop:D

I am not a great Elvis fan but he did do some good songs.:)

This is AMDMatt when he gets his hands on the 390Xs.:D
