WoW isn't about PvP or PvE anymore, it's about casual vs hardcore in terms of what the big driving force of its design is. WoW has kind of reached the pinicle of the style of MMOs has been evolving from since before Everquest. It is basically a boss fighting and loot grinding game, everything else has been distilled or diluted out of it over almost 3 expansions that there is nothing much left. Thing is, in those games, fighting big boss and getting awesome gear is what people loved doing most, WoW is just handing the masses what they want on a plate, but loosing a lot of depth in the process.
The MMO scene is desperate for something new to come along, WAR wasn't quite it and I guess people are looking forward to 40k as the next big thing....

. Last time I played on destro after reroll we met 3x aoe BW team, crippling strikes + SMH and rotated challange on them all = -50/70% less dmg, some roots/silences/snares/knocks and we laughed at all of them, they ended up with 0 kills and we didn't have a single aoe in there.
