And I'd bet 90% of the ones you know are retards too!
High revs are ok once in a while, blow out the crap etc, tbh its a waste of time to redline anything be it a Corsa or a Cosworth as your long past peak power & torque.

For the first time ever I revved my car hard today. On a long, empty open road near me. Was in second and thought "what the hell" and gave it try. Got upto about 6500RPM in second before my confidence gave out.
Of course, it wasn't exactly mind blowing, only got to about 60, but it still felt pretty good I never really drive hard, pretty sedate most of the time. Shifting at anything over 3K is an extravagance for me :]
Maybe it's just me, but I hit the rev limiter in 3rd the first time I drove a car on the public road unaided. To say you've never revved hard in >1 week of driving seems impossible to me
When you get threads like 'How did people drive anywhere before motorways?' is it any surprise i've taken to browsing these boards on the assumption that everyone is completely retarded unless I know who it is?
I used to 'red-line' my 1.6 306 reasonably often, especially when in Wales, first time I hit the limiter was overtaking some loon going out of the north end of Borth in Wales, forgot i'd need another gear to get past! But that was a slow car and needed it (at least I kept saying that to myself). Not sure what impact it had on reliability or whatnot, nothing internal went...
EXCEPT it started missing like a mother in 2nd year of ownership, and on inspection one of the cylinders had water in it, head gasket yes? Well garage git did a compression test and it was ok, so god knows. Anyway I then got rid and got current car. But i'm going withthe reason for failure being a good old sweeping generalisation: it was French. (shush)
I've hit the limiter on the Octy once or twice when seeing just how much I could get out of 2nd gear. I tend to stay off the red-line now I have a pretty nippy car though as it does well enough for most occasions.
ive been told that mine shoots flames on the couple occasions ive hit the limiter, not something i plan to do, but has been hard to avoid when wheelspin occurs etc
