Review: Antec 300 "gamers case" ( lots of pics! )

Managed to find one for £39.68 including all postage etc

This is gonna be my first case mod. Ill make a side window, paint the internals plack and add extra fans :D:D:D

This a much better case for £40 than the 900 for £70, id choose this even if they cost the same amout

The antec 900 is better made then the 300, the only improvements with the 300, it has cable management and dust filters, What anoyed me when working on the 300, you can only get the cables behind the tray at the bottom, but with the 900 you can get the cables behind the tray form the top or bottom, so I prefer my 900 over the 300.

I managed, with a little fiddling to get the power, reset and LED cables in behind the case at the top. In the very corner there's a very small gap just big enough to fit the heads through. The back side of the case swings open there but from what I can see that won't damage the cables.

The USB cables are a problem but I've tucked them in to the case as best as I can and have them tucked into those handy rubber holds at the bottom of the case. My DVD drive and fan controller should hide it nicely.

I'm really liking the compactness and cable tidying options of this case. It looks a lot better from the front then my old antec titan. Pictures really don't do the front grill justice. Can't wait to put my rig into it. Still stuck at home with the family for now though :)

I'm thinking of cutting a window out too. Some sort of upside down L around the fan just showing the motherboard, it'd be small but that hopefully wouldn't be a problem.

I doubt I'll go to the effort of spraying all the internals, not after the disaster of the first spraying of my Titan case. Wrinkly spraypaint F T L :(

I might spray the very back of it white or black, just don't like the plain aluminium colour on the outside.

The motherboard tray might need a hole or two for cable management but we'll see about that :)

Nice review matey, also, nice to see someone else who's a s939 DFI fan - I've got a CFX3200 with a 3800x2 clocked at 2.85GHz sitting next to my main rig waiting for my mate to give me my ram back ;)

Thats a very useful review right there. Im very annoyed that this case used to be £35 though...why the hell has it gone up to £45?!

Yeh I keep looking at alternatives to the 300, but there really doesnt seem to be any viable options.

If this ASUS Vento TA-M2 actually comes with 2 fans, it might be worth it at £40 but otherwise, Im not interested.

Some pics for lazy people.

It supports one intake, one outtake, and two fans on the side which can be moved around on a rail. I think it looks marginally better than the Antec 300 as well. And that side panel would force you to do some cable management :P

What does this case offer over the a generic cheap case except a few cable ties and a painted bottom with rubber feet ?

It seems to have the exact flaw every cheap case seems to have WAY to little space between the mobo and hdd bays meaning a lot of the hdd bays will be completely useless with long graphics cards. I mean the hdd hovers over just about 1 cm to the right from the mainboard, this means any long card like a GTX260 will render the top hdd slot useless. People with sli or tri sli will lose 2 or 3 hdd slots  leaving only 3 hdd slots. Luckily it has the psu on bottom so the bottom 3 slots are safe but still, it's a big flaw imo.

If putting together a decent spec, single GFX, HDD (or 2) rig & don't want the case to break your budget then the 300 is ideal. Outside that then this is really not for you. But against other cheaper cases it holds its own with enough fan mountings, bottom mounted PSU, etc & must admit it looks ok compared to the flashy offerings :p

Most generic cases are fine for that though and may be better looking, let's be honest most pc's really only need 1 front 120mm and 1 rear 120mm fan for cooling and that's enough, anything more is only if someone uses fans that can barely keep themselves spinning let alone push enough air. I have been using an overclocked system with 5hdd's and an 8800GTS for ages. It only became a problem when I bought my 6th hdd. Even took it to a lan and never fell in pieces or anything.
