Review - Creative Sound Blaster X7

Mine arrived yesterday! Only had time to pull the Essence out, quickly put it together and load the drivers, tonight i'll get a chance to have a real play.

Any thing I should do control panel wise? Going to be mainly for gaming initially.

Nice, try using both & see how it sound's. It probably be the same. As TwsT states you'll could lose some features via optical...

The control panel (when I had a Zx) - I used all the bass, crystallizer & the surround setting whilst gaming & turned them off for music & other media stuff.
Most of the other parts I didn't use TBH. Just enjoy it....

Let us know how you get on with it ! I'm very interested to see how it performs with games ?

@TwsT, any idea when these are coming in ? I see the Creative have them in stock, Inc the LE white !
 
Cheers guys, I read somewhere that the Dolby stuff was only available via optical although I think that's console stuff. I have a few options I'm going to try (via head-hi) for the gaming surround stuff and will go for the direct mode for music.

I haven't been this excited about a new toy since I bought the Swift.
 
sbx is the dolby equiv for PC

Creative don't have the THX license anymore


Dolby is opbviously forced by PS4 and Xbox so that isn't done by the DAC I think.

Everyone loves shiny things.
 
So i've had a chance to have a proper play with the X7 over the weekend and have come away really impressed with it. I'm still working out which settings I prefer for gaming; (there's a bit of fiddling involved to get proper surround) my 770pros are bass monsters so i've had to turn that right down in the SBX panel.

Music is fantastic using the direct mode, i'm definitely going to get some new headphones for them though as it'd probably be better to have separate ones for gaming/music.
 
I've been following the thread on Head-fi about the difference between the X7 & LE, basically not much !

I wasn't so sold on it when reading the minor but annoying issues regarding the faffing around with the setting's each time but the Creative rep coming into the thread & feeding back the issues to the engineers & saying its going to be fixed via a new driver was really good ! Nice touch that...
 
Creative do pay more attention now than they used to they aren't the same company they were and If the rest of the DAC range performs as well as the X7 I think we should have some good products.
 
I never had a issue with their driver TBH, the only time I did was when a new OS was released then the drivers were slow to come out ! I've owned many a creative product & they have always been good, the only ones I had an issue with was the X-Fi Fatal1ty front panel not connecting.

I've bought one from Creative as I had a 20% code bring it down to £260.

What delivery did they use ? They (Creative) said I would be emailed when mine would be dispached & got nothing but I've checked my creative Home>My Account>Orders & it states dispached...

Just wondering who to look out for now !!!

You had any joy with the fiddling around getting the gaming right ?

Connecting via BT is good but if some one calls you & you're elsewhere in the house the mobile doesnt work & you'll hear the caller in your desktop set up lol...

Over all working well.
 
Yeah,l ove that mouse ! Years I bought rubbish "gaming" ones... Didn't discover Zowie until I was on the forum's & thought I'd give it a try, wouldn't buy any other brand now...
