Revolving dynamic skyscraper!!

Just another thought... There would be no secondary Fire escape...

lots of really tall buildings only have full access through a central column, there will be lots of access points within the column, multiple stairways, passenger lift, vehicle lift, it's not exactly going to be small

You could time it so that your bedroom either faces east for the rising sun if you want to wake early or to the west if you fancy a lie-in :D

Letting designers, architects and engineers use their imagination and try something entirely different should happen more often imho :)

A giant inflatable tubular slide that goes around the outside of the building would be cool :)

Just add flowing water in it and you have an amazing water side!

I can't really see this working, granted as a concept phase it looks impressive but the things which will stop this will be fire and building regulators.

Revolving access to the only main staircase/lift in an emergency will be fatal, also if a fire broke out on the first floor and got into the access corridor it would basically serve as a funnel to pump smoke into other floors and stop all escape.

Thats not even getting onto the building dynamics of having moving parts at that height and how to stiffen the structure to stop buffeting at height.

Novel concept and would be great to do some of the engineering work on it, but like I said they will have a hell of a lot of problems to over come.

For the fire they might have to have multiple totally seperate escapes which are isolated from each other using fire proof material so if one escape is blocked more can be used instead.

/edit: Also i can think of another building which used a central access point, the world trade centers used a concept like this and that added to how it fell iirc.

No, I am pretty sure I read on the internets that the government used explosives to make the towers fall. :o

I like how its $700 million only, and ready by 2010.

Do it in London, the original cost estimate would be £7billion, expected delivery date 2015, actual cost £17 billion, actual delivery date 2025, and it would still look like **** with lots of corners cut :p

...if only the rest of the world had oil.

What makes me laugh is that Dubai know that oil is running out, so they are heavily investing in tourism for the future income of the area. Now shouldn't they be spending that on renewable energy for future income? They obviously realise that we are all screwed when the oil runs out, so people will fight to live in the paradise of Dubai! Then again, it might suck a bit with no electricity or sports cars driving around. :p

Where did you pull this magical piece of BS from?

Not sure if I have a sauce for you, just overheard conversations at work and people were discussing the large scale tourism push? If you have any links to somewhere I can read otherwise, I would happily spend the end of my lunch reading up on the truth?
