A litre of oil every 1k miles
I don't think I could put up with that.

Me either, since i fixed mine it uses no oil between services
Its a luck of the draw / some engines are designed to burn oil, i think having to stick and check the oil all the time would really make me hate the car.
i check it every 500 miles manually anyway but the light so far works
Even at doing double average miles that's only once a week, no hardshipmine has a light, it tells me when i need more oil!i check it every 500 miles manually anyway but the light so far works

So far...
It'd fully be at the back of my mind when driving. Then you've got the added cost of extra oil (£10 a litre for the good stuff?).
Not to mention the extra weight from carrying the oil in the back![]()
Engine oil's main function is to reduce friction.. surely it's obvious where it goes!!Why are these engines burning oil then? I don't quite understand where it goes...

Run it up and tell us if you are getting any gunk out of the exhaust, thats a better indication of whats wrong, also, pulling the plugs out will tell you straight away whats wrong with it.
