Rice cookers?

I usually just boil a full kettle after its cooked and with a sieve i rinse the rice just before serving.

A full kettle for rinsing rice? That is a serious waste of electricity/ money pointlessly bad for the environment. Just rinse with cold water before hand.

We cook it in the microwave. Basmati rice, I think it is 2cups water/ cup of rice. Microwave on ~1/2 power for 30minutes.

The one in your OP is fine mate. I've been using one for years and it makes nice fluffy rice unless you buy the really cheap stuff. Sainsburys Taste the Difference basmati is pretty good as is the stuff from M&S. ;)

you just criticised boiling a kettle of water and then said you bung the microwave on for 30 mins
of the two I'd say the microwave would use significantly more than the kettle

Bought that but then realised it doesn't say it comes with the rice container/measurer thing or spatula that most other rice cookers come with so ive asked for a refund. As the more i read it the more it sounds like its a slow cooker kinda thing faking as a rice cooker. Tho maybe im paranoid lol. But lookin on the web about it which is hard to find anyone else selling this rice cooker also doesnt say anything about the rice measurer or spatula to indicate a proper rice cooker.

Shame cos it looked about the best but cheapest.

I really should stop to read the fine print lol.

Just looks like this, same model I have

1557253

That was less than a tenner and had it 6 months and still works

Only downside is the element, will cut off too late so the rice can overcook if you leave it, the warm function is pointless as its a metal element rather than water or gas so will carry on cooking for a few extra mins while it cools off

Cooking rice is the most infuriating task I've ever undertaken in a kitchen, seriously no food should be that easy to ruin yet consist of practically nothing at all. I may look into getting a rice cooker actually, I love rice but cooking it really does make me use it less than I would like to.

Mainly getting it to try other types of rice as i usually mess up if i use rice other than easy cook long grain. I bought some Basmati today to try when i get the rice cooker and easy cook lg incase i didnt.

I went through a stage of cooking rice using minimum water methods but found I actually prefer it cooked the traditional british way, ie, tip rice in a pan, add loads of salt and boiling water and cook for about 10 mins on high heat. It's so much quicker and makes less mess as well.
