Riddick 3

Is there much more to the Riddick universe aside from the 3 (now 4 films) and 2 games? I really enjoyed the take on it - makes me want to delve more before this comes out...

Really didnt understand why it took so long to bring this out - been hoping for it for years! :)

Its a case of expanding it as they go really isn't it.
Pitch Black was just an alien planet, which while unexplained, probably didn't have much more to it, ultimately it was the shadiness around the Riddick character and his backstory which is what interested people, launched Diesel's lead actor career and spawned sequels.

The Chronicles expanded to create an entire crazy universe, which I believe he even ends up as ruler of at the end of the previous film.

Its a fun character, so I don't mind that they are expanding on it. Ultimately the reason it has taken a while is that it needs Diesel and he likely had other plans. If you look at the number of sequels he is doing lately.... Fast n Furious... XxX.... Riddick, its clear he isn't getting the more serious acting roles he was craving a few years back.
 
Oh no I dont have an issue with it just being make it up as you go along, I just hoped that since the 3rd film, they might have expanded the universe through other media, like books...

Theres enough snippets within the films to do something with them, like they did with the games...

3rd film? This is the 3rd film coming out? :confused:

Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick?
 
Yeah, Dark Fury was the 2nd and links Pitch Black and CoR - this is the 4th film thats coming out...

Technically you are right, but I'm not sure it really counts like a full feature.

Dark Fury was a straight to video animated movie, which most haven't heard of, or will have seen... myself included.

It's a bit like say something such as The Animatrix. It may be a canon spin-off, but I wouldn't say that The Matrix Trilogy was actually four films because of it, because it wasn't.
 
Its a film - when asked the question how many films are in the CoR, I cant see why its unreasonable to say 3 :confused:. Its why I asked my original question because I wanted to know what else is out there.

Dark Fury explains pretty much the first 15-30mins of CoR and also features all the main actors voices from CoR AFAIK (EDIT: actually checking its more its the actors from PB), just because its an animation or shorter than a full length film (its what half length IIRC) doesnt make it anything less in substance...

EDIT: Sorry sounds like Im snapping, Dark Furys deffo worth a watch if only to understand why Riddick left Jack

Really looking forward to this. PB is a great film. Chronicles was quite enjoyable I thought, despite getting a critical mauling. Certainly wasn't a patch on PB though, so I'm hoping this will be more like the first film.
 
I think I'm in a minority in that I prefer the Chronicles to PB. I like the bigger universe over the smaller PB feel.

I saw Dark Fury, it is 34mins long. No way counted as a film.
 
Nice. Rewatched Pitch Black a couple of days back or so and was wishing they'd make another movie heh. Tho the trailer seems a bit like a rehash of Pitch Black.
 
dropped pants and fapped.... can i get a medical coma until September? I fear death... so much now... i must live until September... please god.. please... (knows deep down inside will be rubbish, prays its not)
 
Chronicles of Riddick is one of my favourite sci-fi films of all time.

I love that universe, i like the character, i liked the baddies and the goodies, i liked the visuals. The universe is on par with star wars and star trek, proper major sci-fi stuff.
