Riddick 3

one of the reason why it taken this long for a sequal is because vin did pb but not as a lead but because of how well he did init, they decide he need his own movie so he did cor. now if you read and watch interviews of the time vin said he wouldn't do sequals so that why there was no fatF sequal with dom we got 2f2f with walker, as for xxx2 he had a falling out with xxx2 people so it was rewritten and they did a short film showing vin xxx getting blow up as pre-sequal to xxx2. now after a few year vin decide to do sequals so we got fatf4, fast five and now we got fatf6, 2 riddick movies on the way plus a possible xxx3 with vin as he now friend/on good terms with the team behind the xxx movies.

The only reason it's taken this long has been studio issues considering the meager commercial returns of the first two. Vin has always been 100% behind Twohy's Riddick universe.
 
Chronicles was balls to the wall sci-fi, it was space Conan. Absolutely brilliant. They dared to be bold with creating a great fantasy universe, and the critics bit their head off. Very sad to see.

Really hoping they don't step it so far back, I want to have a significant feel of being part of the Riddick Universe, not a smaller tale like Pitch Black.
 
I love Riddick, the character is great. Pitch Black is the best film but Chronicles had the best scope (just poor execution for a few bits of it)

I even have Riddick's Saber Claws on my windowsill :D

I love Riddick as a character, I just wish they'd originally went in with the ideas instead of having to create them on the strength of the character in Pitch Black (Which led to some weak tie ups to his abilities in the form of his memory.)

I know in the game ; Escape from Butcher Bay, he gets his eye shine ability just after a surgery (Which wasn't on his eyes), when it happens Riddick believes it was the surgeon who had done this to him, it's also when he started wearing goggles, that could well be the same surgery he thought he'd had, which can be plausible, if a little weak. I know originally they had a flash movie which showed the surgery etc, which has since been made false as they've changed the character.

Looking at the rough plot out on the web so far it looks more like Pitch Black 2 rather than a CoR style big universe film.

I also love the little sly nods to Conan, like him sitting on the throne at the end etc ;)

After reading the plot synopsis I groaned, but that teaser had some pretty cool looking visuals and landscapes.

Absolutely loved the shot at the end, sits down exhausted on the throne and looks up. Was epic, no other word for it. Really feels like a universe of mythology, where there's a chance you can go from a mortal existence to becoming something more.

Might have to dig out my blu-ray copy now. September can't come soon enough.
 
Apart from the obvious \0/ woo hoo \0/ about a new Riddick movie, three things grabbed my attention.

  • It's good to hear that it's going to be 'R' rated, and they haven't copped out like Scott did with Prometheus.
  • The style of dialogue is going to something akin to Training Day's style, i.e. proper full-on and gritty.
  • We get to see Riddick go home to Furya.
 
im looking forward to this myself ... and dont class this as 4 .. didnt know about that short cartoon version , but thats all it was.

and lets not forget .. pitch black was a 1 movie deal .... they only decided to go back to Riddick a few years later .....

Pitch Black was called just that ... it was then re-named " Pitch Black - The Chronicules of Riddick" , on dvd / BR ( even hd-dvd ) after the 2nd film.

this new trailer hints more at the original film to me. but thats expected as the budgets way lower than the 2nd film ( can't believe it bombed )
