Ride safe, get a decent helmet.

thats just my opinion. i dont see why if you do not take reasonable precautions to prevent a brain injury then why should you receive "free" care for the remainder of your days which could run into decade(s).

same as i dont believe smokers and alcoholics should be entitled to free treatment for their self inflicted conditions.

what about car drivers?

we need roll cages, crash helmets, racing belts, engine cut-off switches and fire teams fallowing each car just in case ;)

see the logic?

cars have built in safety cells these days, modern ones also have cut offs following an impact. but being encased in a large metal box is not really the same as riding a bike.

It's a rather callous opinion and much like the one you have about smokers and alcoholics shows either a disregard for or misunderstanding of the wider issues/causes.

i dont think its callous, people are well aware of the health risks.

i think we'll have to agree to disagree overall on this, i can see this going around and around :)

The problem is that from there it's a hop, skip and a jump to saying that cycling is just too dangerous full stop. After all, if I don't wear body armour, what happens when I sustain injuries to my torso when a car drives into me. If i'm not wearing kevlar, should they treat me for road rash? What about other self selected activities? No footballers to be treated for broken legs? Basketball players and injured fingers? Where do you stop?

i dont. i appreciate that a helmet is not a catch all safety device.

You are not the sum total of "people" ;)

correct, but 90% of cyclists will not be able to top 30mph either so it all balances out ;)

indeed, I'm out of breath.

well I've been wearing one for the past 2ish weeks now and it's a PITA, super uncomfortable, super painful etc and if I adjust it so it is comfy, it results in helmet moving all over the place.. going to hit the shops again and try a few different ones on and see if I can find one that fits my head better. So yeah, depends ;)

I hear you

well I've been wearing a pair of shoes for the past 2ish weeks now and it's a PITA, super uncomfortable, super painful etc and if I adjust it so it is comfy, it results in my heels sticking out the back and moving all over the place.. going to hit the shops again and try a few different ones on and see if I can find one that fits my head better. So yeah, depends ;)

Maybe buying a size 7 when my feet are a 10 was a mistake.................:D:D
