ridiculous optional extras

I'm quite happy with the manual wipers on my new old car, and yes I've driven VW group cars with automatic wipers.

Mine has an analogue knob for the intermittent wipe speed so I can set and adjust it as necessary, though I can see why intermittent would be annoying if you only have 1-3 different intermittent wipe settings.

How many settings have you got for the intermittent speed? I have 6, not quite sure I need that many but oh well. Same goes for the heater fan, 6 speeds for that also!

I have a megane with auto wipers. They are really really bad. Whenever I put it in reverse it puts the rear wiper on. Why?

It also has 'guide me home lights' which stay on for 1 min after you switch the car off. totally pointless.

Why don't they give me features I want. Like a coffee perculator, newspaper rack or a musical horn.

Or instead of building cars with all of these 'features' build a good solid car instead and then worry about keeping up with the BMW features at a later date.

Should be the same system as the clio and if it wasn't raining (as in the front wipers arn't working) then the system wouldn't put the rear wiper on when you stick the car in reverse, actually come to think about it the Megane i had on hire never stuck the rear wiper on when i selected reverse.

Stupid options…how about "Heated Steering Wheel - £145" (From the new Z4 pricing catalogue)

Best invention ever, for me I work shifts and the number of times I would love a heated wheel is numerous in the winter. I wish I owned one.

Number of things like auto lights/wipers etc arent fabulous inventions but I like the fact they are there and leave me to drive, as much as I like gadgets putting the wipers and lights on isnt exactly fun so its just one less thing to worry about.

I remember when I specced up an rs6 on the audi site (as you do) and there was an option for 'Lane Assist' (or something similar)

Turns out that when you indicate it checks if anything is alongside you or just behind you in the next lane and alerts you to the fact.

In my eyes that would just make people less likely to bother checking their mirrors;
"oh, no bong so there's nothing there so I'll just pull out"

It also won't help people who don't indicate ;)

As long as you don't become reliant on it. Could save some poor biker's life.

Sadly in the world we live in today people take everyting for granted, seems a pointless option to have if you are not going to use it all the time and rely on it. Driving standards are bad enough without people not using there own eyes and mirrors and letting the car do it for them. Imagine the scene of an accident:

Police Officer: What on earth were you doing pulling into the other lane when there was a car coming along side you?
Driver: Well the car didnt tell me there was sombody there so I moved over.
Policer Officer: *Insert facepalm picture*

Audi Lane assist only sounds when you go over white lines without indicating.

The blind spot option is something different – lights on the rear view mirrors to inform you of cars in your blind spot.

Quite useful on a ragtop when you don't want to wear gloves. Porsche have introduced a heated wheel option on the Gen2 9X7 range this year.

My Mrs has a megane with the auto-rear wiper. Agreed - stupidest feature EVER.

I don't like over automation. I want full manual control of wipers, lights, gears and the rest. ABS I can live with being fixed on, traction control I want to be able to disable. But then, I am a control freak.
