Ridiculous wheel alignment quote

Never had to do a wheel alignment in my life of driving.

But currently one of the front wheel has uneven wear, so got a quote from local Tyre Pros - £350 each wheel!

I have never ever heard of such ridiculous quote before. The guy even had the audacity to justify it by saying there could be upto 7 different alignment changes required. Pretty sure a F1 car suspension system doesn’t have 7 degrees of freedom…

Basically now I know what Pro stands for in their branding - Pro conman. A different shop of the same branding tried to fleece me off £580+fitting for a pair of tyres.

LOL local guy does 4 wheel alignment with all the kit for not much more than 1/10th of that and the dealer does basic alignment check for free and only charges for adjustment.

I don't believe they've quoted you £1400 to simply do an alignment on what is probably a hunter machine.

There must be some confusion in the conversation like they thought you wanted new tyres and the price is for tyres fitted, balanced and alignment done.

Even that a bit steep but a more likely explanation, or they got the decimal point in the wrong place.

But there are no shortage of people these days sadly who'll charge £LOL amounts for work taking advantage of people who don't know better or in an emergency situation and don't have options, like with the recent threads on people having a locksmith out charging 1000s for a simple job.

Nah, two different shops I went. Tyres one shop wanted £260 for one plus some added stuff.

Then I went to another shop for alignment cost cos the local one doesn’t have the machines.

Pretty sure alignment is like £50 max

Maybe there is important information missing, like what car you drive? I have never heard of anything so crazy otherwise
A Skoda Enyaq. Pretty sure that doesn’t require anything special. It certainly doesn’t have 7 degrees of freedom in the suspension system. Toe in and camber?

Feels like a proper disconnect then in terms of what you want and what’s being quoted for. Find a different place as the quote you have is ridiculous.

Local tyre pros is not where you’d typically take such a car for aligning.

Obviously

As long as everything is easy to get at and battery isolation or removal is not required, then I cannot see how they got them prices.

I'm completely convinced they've quoted to supply tyres too, even if that wasn't what was asked for.

£1400 to throw a car on the Hunter machine for 20 minutes is silly even for '**** off pricing' - there's no way a chain like Tyre Pros are trying to run a business charging that as standard.

I think I paid under £200 to get the Elise aligned by a specialist and everything is adjustable on that, even ride height and rake. Took them ages.

This is a comical price.
