Ridiculous wheel alignment quote

I'm completely convinced they've quoted to supply tyres too, even if that wasn't what was asked for.

£1400 to throw a car on the Hunter machine for 20 minutes is silly even for '**** off pricing' - there's no way a chain like Tyre Pros are trying to run a business charging that as standard.
Nah, I told the guy I have my own tyres just needed the fronts to be aligned as the front left had shoulder wear. Plus they don’t fit custom tyres. Which is ridiculous for a tyre shop that doesn’t fit customer tyres. Another indicator they are just con-man. At least you get free air top ups

I think they take people for mugs.

Now going to pro tyres they said it should be £50 all in for alignment changes on both wheels.

But does the OP's price include calibration of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), as it is recommended after wheel alignment is adjusted.

Those you linked to do not include an ADAS calibration, but point taken on correct calibrations being required, which was not a requirement when I received my training.

I recently wanted 4 wheel alignment done at ATS and they said tie rod ends were seized and tried to quote me for replacements. Took it to BMW instead, they charged slightly more but bothered to actually try and got the job done.

I use a local tyre specialist, they are very good much better than the "chains" and are always very busy due to there service and reasonable price.

They have a hunter 4 wheel alignment and charge per alignment adjustment they make.

Think the last one cost me £75 as I had the front and rear suspension changed prior to arrival, the rear of my car has adjustment in everything, the front just has alignment. Think they charge £15 per adjustment required. If nothing needs changing then they don't charge.

They also fit tyres you supply for £20 per wheel and puncture repairs are £25 per tyre.

I had a similar experience, took it to a local garage "we've gotten it as close as we can but it's all a bit rusty so it's not perfect".

Took it down the road for them to check "wtf has been going on there they've taken chunks out of everything with grips!? It's all done here's the print out"

I think the first place had got the work experience kid on it.

I agree the quoted cost is a joke, but there are so many variables.

Checking/adjusting the front toe only, is very different to doing a full alignment. Some vehicle take a long time to get right.

Most tyre places / fast fit centres will only do the front toe. (Some cars don't have any other adjustability from the front toe).

The result is very dependent on the individual who's doing the work. I've had customers come to me for alignment because several previous garages have made things worse!

Also to consider; does the vehicle have ADAS? Radar, Lidar, cameras? If so, that will also require recalibration from a qualified mechanic after any geometry is adjusted. These calibration packages cost a lot to buy, you have to retrain every 2 years, and it can be very time consuming to do, so generally it's an expensive service.

Someone trying to have you on.
I hit a curb many years ago that threw my alignment off.
This was around 2009 and in middlesbrough, but alignment cost me about £50, took less than an hour.

I paid £110 4 weeks ago to get the S2000 done on a Hunter. They are taking the mick. Even for a full corner weight and spring adjustment I'd expect around £400.

Tyre-Pro's is just Kwik Fit under a different name right?

Astonishing quote for a national chain like that. Someone blatently trying a con job. Their head office would be interested in hearing about it I'm sure.
