Rift: Planes of Telera Beta

Looks like the port issue has not been fixed with BT - as soon as 7pm arrives latency goes through the roof due to their traffic shaping. Currently 197160ms !

Lets hope for a fix soon :)

One thing pointed out above that seems really odd is that health and mana is restored so quickly - almost makes the combat seem like auto pilot. Graphics are nice, and gameplay seems ok although I can't seem to get into the storyline of the Quests as of yet.

Still not sold on this, and if the BT problem cannot be sorted then I will not be subbing for the game.

Im pretty sure putting this in the main game folder does nothing, where are you meant to put it? It does not overwrite anything for a start.

Right click the shortcut you use to run the game > properties > short cut > open file location and just stick it in that folder. That's following someone's instructions on the rift forums and so far I would say i get like 5-10 more fps on average then I did.

edit: it doesn't overwrite anything btw

For most people the game installed to local/appdata and NOT program files, thats where i put it and have deffo seen some slight improvement.

Well had my fair share. Didnt really enjoy it.
Community seems good 50% of the time which is a good thing! But at times it was REALLY bad.
Rift things are just disorginised chaos, couldnt see what was happening, 90% of the time just seemed like a mad rush. This happens will all mmos, i just cant see the action just a jumble of names and i end up just clicking my icons and not bothering to look at the action.
There is obviously a lot to do to keep the min/max people occupied though. But thats not me.
Crafting is the same old poop, nothing it seems will ever rival eq2 crafting.
The story was interesting for about 8 levels. Quests got a bit boring, catching fire squirels and wisps... no thanks.
Its like a mix of Alloids and Rune of Magic, both are free to play (although Alloids becomes stupid when you run out of the essence stuff after a week). From what i saw of the general scenary Runes of Magic is better, more exciting to me.
Just not my taste, roll on Guild Wars 2! *goes back to Baldurs Gate 2*

One thing from the latest patch:

* If the client cannot connect to the Rift servers using the normal ports [6000-6020], it will attempt to connect on port 80. Users with otherwise blocked ports should be able to connect to the game after this change.

I know some people on here were having problems with connecting from university etc, so maybe this will help :)

I have a level 7 necromancer, i actually quite like the whole setup of the game... has a DAOC feel to it... whats the pvp like?

the Warfronts are fantastic, but with the PvP you really need to level up and persevere as lvl 10's really do get minced quite easily in the 10-19 Tier. You can even level up purely from doing the warfronts and it costs 2500 Favor (PvP currency) to obtain your PvP soul. If you ever played Warhammer online it's much the same format and combat which probably explains why it's so damn addictive !! :p !!

Good change. I played a bit this morning.

Completly maxed out of the graphics settings it plays alright, but not as smooth as I'd have liked.

Oh well scaled a few bars down a bit, no real noticable change in quality but runs smoother.

I don't like the Deviants at all, I always like playing Warrior classes and they don't have a race that appeals to me.

Guardians are ok.

The visual style of the game reminds me a of more Polished Warhammer Online. Even so I don't find the game all that appealing really. That said though from what I've seen of High end armour it looks naf. Extremely over the top stuff and I'm not a fan of the constant "lightning ach" graphic for swinging weapons and using skills.

The thing I liked the most from the trailers anyway was the Undead from the Death Ward, they looked really good to me.

I can't see myself buying this game anytime soon.

Do the rifts improve when you hit 20+ other than spawning groups of mobs in various stages? So far it has been fun with the large community on Farside RP-PvP and groups of players attacking them but might find them getting old quickly like public quests did in Warhammer.

There can be whole scale invasions where Rifts spew out mobs that attack the entire zone along with a hard as nails boss mob.

Anyone playing atm? And do we have any news of an OCUK guild?

Yes there's a ocuk guild on the Sagespire shard (Defiant). Here's the website and steam group:

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/ocukRift

Unfortunately i've been levelling up on Icewatch (I'm Jezal if anyone's on there), but might try a different class on sagespire this eve.

Also in response to concerns about dullness of questing in Rift, it does seem to get better. I'm lvl26 and just finished the Centius quest in Stonefield (Death of a Titan) - actually quite enjoyed it and spectacular conclusion. Scarlet Gorge is also shaping up to be fairly intriguing.

Turning of GX has worked, trying a rogue out now, gone with assasin and some other OP sounding thing, seems quite nice so far. I think mage is quite IMBA to be fair, waaaaay OP for my liking, a bit like Tempest of Set when AOC first came out. hopefully they will balance it out a bit further in.

Only thing I am not keen on is the fact I am going to lose my awesome mage and rogue come monday :(...Unless you get to keep them if you have pre-ordered?
