I can play WoW with full graphics (including shadows at high, not ultra) on my older Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz with my old HD4870 512mb. I would raid in ICC25man on that spec and not have any framerate issues.
Yes you can play WoW fine with a Q6600 (I would suggest to OC it a little) and a GTX460.
EDIT: Just to add to this, I have just been playing it at 1080 with my rig in my sig. My CPU is not overclocked currently. It was playing it fine with no FPS drop, everytime I checked it was at 60FPS. Once it was 47FPS when I flew into Orgi for the first time since WotLK "ended".

When i was playing wow, i would run it on spec in sig. All settings max apart from shadows, which were set to lowest before 4.0 @ 1920 x 1200.
Random zones id normally get 60 - 100 fps. Icc 10 man id get normally 60 or more. Icc25 man hc on aoe bosses id go as low as 20 fps. I did have a fair few addons on, but even disabling them all and lowering graphics settings didnt make hardly any difference at all. Either something was wrong with my pc or people in this thread are lying / confused about their fps.

Looks to me your running next to no addons (which will affect fps) and is that 11.xx pm or am? if its pm theres likely to be a lot less players on, which will increase fps in major cities by a fair amount.

A Q6600 will probably need to be clocked above 3.0GHz to run WoW smoothly, as WoW only really uses 2 cores to maximum potential I believe. Cataclysm will be more demanding than WotLK as well so I am not sure if a fast clocked Q6600 will be enough to run everything at max settings @ 1080p, but I can't say for sure. It will defo be able to run with fairly high settings though.
High fps in cities is not really all that important anyway, more important are your fps in instanced dungeons / raids or battlegrounds / arenas.
Ideally to run WoW: Cata at the highest settings smoothly @ 1080p, you will probably want to have an i3/5/7 overclocked to at least 3.5GHz, and a GTX 460 1024MB equivalent or better.
(May be a bit of overkill, but these components really are not all that expensive and offer very good price : performance for a gaming setup)
Addons will affect fps if you have demanding ones or a tonne of them, but a few simple ones shouldn't present too much of a problem.
I will let you know what my fps is like when the game comes out with an i3 & 460.

I play on Ultra/1440x900 @ 60fps (capped) on an [email protected], GTX260 896mb and 4gb DDR2.

I think everyones definition of maxing is different. I had a [email protected] and a 4870, and FPS dropped to single figures, or low teens sometimes in raids.

I used to play WOW throughout WOTLK on my E5200 @ 3.2Ghz, 4GB DDR2 800Mhz ram, and using an 8800GT and 4870 1GB.
I could never max the game anywhere other than in the less populated starting zones, and Dalaran could be a huge lag fest if there was a lot of people hangin about there, same with Orgrimmar or Stormwind. Raids we're playable on the highest settings, but again would dip down slightly on huge AOE areas/boss fights.
I think to play this game optimally you would probably require at least a quad core, or a high spec dual core like an i3, a decent graphics card, and a fast hard drive/SSD. I'm awake sir. I raid, PVP and quest on Ultra with no problems.
This myth about WoW being some system hogging whore-queen is hilarious and dated.
No system is prepared for the initial churn of logging into prime time Dalaran. Otherwise, what's the issue?

thats all very well and good, but do you get 60fps solid in 25man raids with lots of heavy aoe?
Even so, your playing on a res that i bet most are not using anymore. cba looking it up but from all the people i talk to in wow, they are running 1680 x 1050 or higher.
Its true you can run the game quite well on a low end rig, but to get a decent framerate at a decent resolution with high graphics in raids, takes a bit more.
