Back with a Vengeance.
I'm going to be tackling the 'ring next year and, as I know that more than a few of you guys have already done so, I wondered if there are any tips that you could share?

I'll be there at the beginning of september, so hopefully the German weather will be ok.

Any real world advice would be appreciated.

Ahhh, nothing major, I had a good laugh anyway.:)

All it's done has spurred me on to want to go even more now, the place looked awesome, even the local roads made for fabulous driving.

Check out the opening times on-line, they won't be up as yet though. Avoid holiday weekends if you can - evening sessions during the week are great as there are less cars and less total idiots binning their cars/bikes and closing the track. Karting is fun over there, reasonable indoor track and worth a giggle. Pistonklause steak is also required.

Don't try and be a hero and the fastest thing around the track as you won't be. Follow the track etiquette and drive within your limits to start with and then find where you are comfortable. It's defo worth getting a lift around off a regular as it shows you where you can and can't hammer it.

If you are camping, use Camping an Nurburgring, just not when the DTM championship is around, unless you like German Prog Rock at 7am. The hotel Nordshliefe was nice as well.

I too am convoying with 6 other cars (all jap cars like EP3's and celicas) to the 'ring next year for a weekend or two. My concern is insurance, anyone have any experience with how to insure the car for the 'ring? Does it count as track insurance?

Thanks!
I'll be there mid-week, probably a wed or thursday and I'll definitely be staying in a hotel lol.

Snow isn't necessarily a problem (although Ice would probably close it a lot over December/January/Feb).

We were confronted with this on the first morning we were over there at Easter this year:

But then we went out and took these:

OK, and thanks for the imput so far :)

Now a few things.
"learning" the course via Playstation.....worthwhile or urban legend?
How hard is it going to be with less than 200bhp to break 10 minutes?

Don't go there with a target, if it's your first time. Just enjoy it...

I completely agree with your advice mate, but I'm sitting at my desk at the moment. When I'm actually there, to say that I'm competitive doesn't really give you the full picture lol.
I won't be giving it 100%, but I will be pushing hard.

You need to check your own insurance, some actually exclude the 'ring but it's a bit of a gray area tbh.

It should do 10 mins, but don;t time it - you can't 'learn' the track like you do on track days and PlayStation does not prepare you for it. Have some fun and don't get competitive or you'll be picking the car out of the barriers with a big bill attached tbh.

In your opinion, how many of the corners/bends are "blind"?
