If you have a vernier gauge or other means of accurately measuring the inside diameter of an existing ring she has then go Here to find out the ring size letter ;)

Be careful though as I've just checked with a vernier, and some of their measurements are out.

Another thing you have to take into account is that some rings are sized from the centre, and some are sized from the leading edge.

Go to a jeweller.

Also, white gold is usually Rhodium Plated (as there's no such thing as white gold in reality, it's just very pale yellow gold). If you resize, especially downwards, the ring could need to be re-plated.

I did say i only thought z was around the larger end which would be correct. Theres obviously larger sizes than that as you have pointed out, Im no jeweller?

When you measure a used ring you need to measure is several directions i.e. at 90 degrees and 45 degrees of the initial measurement then go for the mean figure of them, rings that have been worn (and some new) tend to be oval in shape so the internal measurement can vary.

You were right :)

Z is certainly around the bigger end. Conventional British wheatsheaf sizes go up to Z + 6 (pretty much equivalent to a continental 76), which is huge. An A is absolutely tiny!

So are you saying the Ring is on the Bigger end. I think you are.

I shall continue to giggle childishly. She has a Z ring. Mine is more like a Starfish TBH. :D

Here is a picture of a steel triblet, which is used for forming rings (no giggling at the back). A is the smallest division, Z+6 is the largest.

Quite a variation, so make sure you get it right :)

AARGH! Too much! ;)

Thanks for all the feedback. I have spoken to the online company and they have advised that they cannot guarantee a chrimbo delivery for this style! Oh well. Still, I really want this ring and her birthday comes up in February so I will have time to get an old ring measured (she still wears it). Oh, people don't forgot to titter at 'old ring'

Feel free now to let yourselves lose on 'ring' gags!! ;)

I got all the way through the thread, managing to not titter or chortle but that one did the trick and I did a huge real LOL in the office. So sorry, I did giggle at the back :)

Sorry Feek. I'd photograph some of the other workshop tools for you, but you'd really laugh your head off then :p

Thank God I didn't photograph the reamer :D
