I never bother to rinse and I've never had a problem in 10 years or so of having dishwashers of my own. My parents did/do - I think it's a historical thing because early dishwashers couldn't cope as well.

Well no, but it takes like an extra 10 minutes to wash plates for 3 people.

Most meals involve more washing up than just '3 plates' or do you live off Rustlers burgers or something. :p

I always rinse, by doing that allows me to use the fast program on the machine and have them ready in 34 minutes instead of 130 minutes.

I just scrape the lumps and leave the rest on the plate and shove it in the washer. I've always done it this way and never had a problem with the machine in 12 years.

Real men wash up by hand. Dishwasher?! Bunch of fairies .

*puts on pink marigolds*

and yey! pancake

Mmom always rinses things before going in etc.

Ill scrape off food and give cups used for tea/coffe a quick rinse under the tap before putting them in. Food thats been there a while and got stuck on plates is not nice.

Dad just shoves them in though, cue parents bickering over the dishwasher... oh and not putting things in right:p

sadly i had to choose pancake as I 1/4 fill the sink cold water and wash them I don't rinse them under running water. I dishwasher them as it's more hygenic than using the dishtowel to dry them. Also read somewhere that it actually uses less water.
Rinsing them in the sink, then dishwashering them uses less water than just dishwashering them? Got a scientific link to how this is possible?

scrape them then put them in the dishwasher, clean the filter once every couple of months. Dishwasher has been working fine for over 5 years now, we don't run it every day only when it's full so probably every 2-3 days and we've never had any problem with stuff drying on to the point it doesn't come off and thats using a cheap Hotpoint dishwasher on economy mode.
