Except TV shows. Everything is dark, gore and sinister these days.
Was going to say much the same myself.
Regarding "Prisoner Cell block H"
Then it was entertaining with just enough tension to keep it interesting but no realty gratuitous violence (there was a lot of psychological stuff, but I think the most gory physical incident was when "Queen B" burned one of the other girls with a soldering iron.)
The recent remake, by contrast, was like everything else these days. An obsession among modern produces to pursue "Grittiness and reality" to such an extent that it basically just becomes torture porn!
I want my TV shows to be entertainment, not brutalistic drama-documentaries. No wonder younger people are so bloody nihilistic these days!
(Oh, and WRT the other thread on Web-Advertising. Back in the day TV shows ran to nearly 50Mins/Hour. Nowadays I have seen some that run as low as 37!
Even the good ones are almost unwatchable because of the constant interruptions by interminable ad breaks, PVR's can mitigate this a bit, but cannot totally remove the consequences of an utterly fractured story line!
