RIP Metric System

A day is 24 hours, a rotation of the Earth is only 23 hours 56 minutes and 4 seconds, Earth revolves around the sun 365 days, 5 hours, 59 minutes and 16 seconds, so even with a leap year it's still not totally accurate, we should strive for a more accurate measurement of time that syncs without any rounding errors for days & years if days are complete rotation and years are complete orbits

I've already said that I think that at least for the time being it makes sense to measure the length of a day using the surface of the Earth as a frame of reference. You've chosen to use a distant star as your frame of reference. So we're not even talking about the same day.

But although the frame of reference measuring a day or a year matters, it's not the core point on this little sidenote. This is: How do you propose to ensure that Earth rotates an integer number of times during one orbit? A more accurate measure of time isn't relevant to that. Especially not when we can already measure to an accuracy of a miniscule fraction of a second.

Is this one of these nonsense stories or is this actually going to affect stuff?

We aren't going to start seeing gallons etc on petrol stations are we?

Some market traders might start using it again but no one else is going to bother with the expense.

Its the link to brexit thats causing the froth not the actual idea - which as pointed out earlier in the thread has been coming for several years.

No, it's the idea.

That it only arose as some sort of patriotic jingoism for moronic Brexiteers is just amusing as it epitomises their backward little Englander mentality.

I’m not convinced - decriminalising something absurd is sensible but as soon as you link it to the massive group failure of the remain cause you get the sort of froth in this thread.
