Rip off Britain..!!

At least our own government doesn't do everything it can to rip off it's own citizens then take it up the rear from people who then try to blow up England. Oh BURN.

You mean like the way everyone in the US gets ripped off by the unregulated health insurance companies because the corrupt government are on their payroll and they imprison a load of innocent people without charge in Guantánamo Bay (who ironically get better healthcare than the rest of the US)? Right....

Doesnt matter if America is any better or worse, the fact remains that they are stupid

petrol is a massive price but its not just the UK
Price per Barrel of Oil has risen mass loads over the last few years
the tax has been kept the same

but yes some of the stuff is a rip off
just think if taxes were removed you wouldnt be happy at all cause then you would bitch about other things like the roads are in bad condition and you have to pay £60 for pills.

No we would be celebrating that people too lazy to work don't get the dole anymore. ;)

The roads aren't fixed properly as it is, because the tax hardly goes on the so-called item. Council tax is a similar story, they reduce services but increase the charges...

Extended warranties, hmm, I thought 2 years was mandatory in the EU now? But the real reason is the stuff's almost all cheap **** imported from the Far East.

Stamp duty is pretty obvious...its basically VAT for a used item.

Airport taxes. Well, BAA make enough money charging percentage rents based on business' sales so that seems a logical complaint to me.

Capital gains tax is in the same boat, have to pay tax on a used item even if your giving it away, due to market circumstances out of your control. Even if the price increase is due to inflation you still have to pay despite not making any actual real gains on it ffs.

We were getting at least twice as much food / drink for the same price as we pay back in Britain. 6 Heineken bottles - £3.20. 1 litre bottle San Miquel 75p. Milk - 55p Bread - 60p..........Even the meat/veg was miles cheaper & this on an small Spanish Island that has to import nearly everything.

That's called purchasing power parity, doesn't mean they are cheap for the people who live there.

Sorry,

But where is the most important (food / groceries / drink etc)

I returned from a weeks holiday in Ibiza 2 weeks ago, and shopped in the local hypermarket (5 mins from our Villa)

That might be true, but you break your leg on that island and see how much it costs you.....

You have no experience with US health care. For those that have the insurance the health care is brilliant, there are no 6 month waiting lists for a new liver, there are no 5 hour waits in ER. Things get done, just because you might have to pay $200 a month for insurance makes no difference so don't start talking out of your anus.

The NHS is a joke and everyone knows it. Hell, you are the laughing stocks of the world.

Either way, I wont make this into another US Vs UK topic, I think some of you need to pull your heads out of your arses and stop thinking England is some sort of super great country.

You're a very angsty person Killa! Our international reputation is nowhere near as bad as your lot. Yours is in tatters. We may be laughed at but at least we're not universally hated. You stinky poo poo.

Same here, but people who can't afford it aren't left to die homeless and bankrupt like they are in the US, nor are they refused treatment because they had an undisclosed common cold infection 20 years ago. And the waits in A&E are less than an hour.

From someone who thinks America is the world, that doesn't mean much.

Why dont we look at this on a more personal level where we are actually effected.

1) I pay F all for gas - $3.70 a gallon today

3) houses are huge - my house is 5000s*** and cost $780,000
4) Income tax is not even worth mentioning - 6% on higher incomes
5) Health Care is far superior - Yes, it is. I work for it and know.
6) Girls are hotter - Dont even bother trying to question this
7) there are no chavs - They are only a british problem because your all spineless and wont stand up to them.
8) Graduate starting salaries are much better - I start on $175,000 in may

Considering almost all those statements are false, I think it can. I never considered hurricanes great weather personally.

I can come up with a list as equally as pointless.

1) I don't have to commute for miles and walk so pay nothing for petrol.
2) I walk so have no car insurance.
3) If I had enough money I could buy a mansion.
4) I pay no income tax as all my income is from investments and savings.
5) Private healthcare is as good as the US, very highly regulated so I don't get ripped off or refused treatment and I get public healthcare for nothing (as I pay no tax).
6) Obesity rate far lower than the US.
7) No chavs in my area and much lower crime rates than the US.
8) Graduate salaries depend on job area and demand like the US.
9) Food is and other essentials exempt from VAT.
10) I hate grass.
11) All my savings are earning 7.2% interest untaxed.
12) Education is much better
13) Government give annual grants to everyone which don't have to be paid back no matter what grade you get.
14) No hurricaines or floods here and a nice sunny sky.

Hey it's not his fault, any time you see one of these presidents or candidates giving a speech on TV they only need to chuck in "the greatest country on earth" a load of waffle about fighting for freedom, restoring hope etc and they all start whooping.

"America, we cannot turn back," he said. "We cannot walk alone. At this moment, in this election, we must pledge once more to walk into the future."

Meaningless clap trap that they lap up.

That's rather loaded don't you think? Do you want to emigrate? No. Ergo you must feel where you are is better for you. Might not be better for me though - in fact, since I don't drive, I'd probably find it rather difficult to live there.

PS - I have nothing against the US at all. Been there loads of times (and not just the touristy bits).
