RIP Paul Walker

So care to explain why Porsche paid out 4.5mil to the last person that binned a carrera GT and killed himself? and he wasn't even famous.

They're going to be taken to the cleaners, if the evidence points towards mechanical failure.

lolwut that !

Porsche paid 8 percent of a $4.5 million settlement

Proof read your own sources ;)

You're getting LOLWUT because your post is entirely based on presumption. Porsche paid 8% of that settlement, hardly what I call 'taken to the cleaners'.

From what I can see that article is simply saying that the GT is more of a purist car without all the electrical wizadry that other cars have and for that reason you can't change direction quickly in it without crashing. I don't see how Porsche could be taken to the cleaners for simply that? That is just the nature of the beast with regards to the GT and you have to drive accordingly taking into account these things. You can't blame the car simply because it doesn't have all the electrical gizmos fitted.

That is a bit like saying anyone who has rear ended someone because they locked up their Lotus Elise brakes will sue Lotus because they didn't fit ABS. I don't see how it is possible.

If the car had a full Porsche service history and mechanical failure is deemed the reason then yes I can see Porsche being taken to the cleaners. If however any work has been carried out on the car outside of a Porsche garage and no one can quantify what exactly was done again I don't see how Porsche can be put entirely to blame.

We shall have to wait and see.

There's a strong possibility that they're going to be taken to the cleaners because two people are dead, and seeing that the person who was driving can't be held responsible, then they'll just go after the next best target, and that target being Porsche.

They'll be a long line of wanna be famous lawyers wanting part of this, wanting to represent the Walker / Rogas family especially considering there's been other lawsuits. Rest assured there will be another. One with a lot more publicity, given the person deceased. I didn't say I agreed with it, just said, that this is how America works ! Land of Litigation.

I think you could be right there.

I do find it sad that we live in a world where "money" will make everything better.

Where a tragic accident, turns into someone to blame and milk them for money to make it alright again.....the sort of thing the Jackson family would do.

Car accidents happen EVERY SINGLE day.......if people were allowed to sue the car manufacturers everytime a loved one died then we wouldnt have any car manufacturers left.

The Carrera GT is a very high performance car, to crash the car in such a way that the occupants are stuck inside or unconscious they would have been driving at high speed and that is the drivers fault....not Porsche and unless catastrophic mechanical failure can be proved that was down to manafacturing fault, then I cant see why Porsche should be responsible.

Crashes happen and people die...fact of life.

I remember back in college doing a case study about a US car firm, that had released a car with a design fault, where if hit from behind the car would explode. Cant remember make or model but to remember them being successfully sued and then rectifying the issue.

True they do happen and it is a fact of life. But I think the thing was that particular car (the Gt brand had also been condemmed by many) had faults as the worker was unable to load it properly as far as I read.

I know this (the other faults of - their - particular GT) doesn't mean its the companies fault though!

Maybe so, but people do not buy that kind of vehicle to obey the speed limits.

So Porsche sold that car, fully knowing that its occupants would no doubt be putting their foot down.. The least they could do, is ensure that their car was reliable enough so that the steering wouldn't malfunction and smack its occupants head on into a tree. Or worse still into another incoming car.

They'll be held liable, I reckon.

Best thing I've read for a long time.

Yeah in that instance you would look to punish the manufacturer, as they have caused death by design.

But if the guy was driving to fast, lost control and smashed into a tree...then its no-ones fault but his own.

It will be hard to prove that it was a mechanical fault anyway, as the car was smashed to pieces and then burnt to a cinder...no black box and minimal electrical systems mean the data will be small.

Doesn't have to be a mechanical fault, it could just as easily be a design flaw that leads the car to behave in a certain way only when a specific set of circumstances occur, now i suspect that if legal action is being contemplated against Porsche, right now there will be teams of researchers both at Porsche & at what ever law firm representing the Walker family, pouring over every last accident report from both on & off track, looking for a pattern.

if they find a common thread, say the car will allways break hard to the right when this, this, and this happens at that particular speed, then Porsche will be in trouble.

Yeah I saw that.....very fake. You can see the photoshop editing done and there is no evidence of fire damage to his face, hair etc, which would be very evident considering the state of the car after they put the fire out.

Some sick people out there.
