RIP Prince

Anyone see the news today?

I rest my case, a once great artist but indeed up to his eyeballs in drugs.

Boom now there's a surprise eh :P

Prescription meds from what I read.
Painkillers prescribed to him in the 2 weeks prior to his death, and the day before his death.

Not quite the rock and roll drugs death you were talking about.

Aye, and it can be quite easy to OD on some prescription meds, especially if you're not aware of the risks of taking too many or have a susceptibility to them, you just have to think of the number of people that don't realise how important it is to complete a course of anti-biotics, or what can reduce the effects of birth control pills.

For all we know Prince may have had a reaction to a combination of the painkillers and something else that was both legal and readily available.
There are all sorts of weird reactions you can get from some medications when taken with certain foods* or over the counter stuff.

My brother had a really nasty reaction to a prescription med when he was younger, it turned out it was something like only the second case the A&E consultant at the hospital had seen in 20 years, and the first time he'd heard of it on a dose as low as the one my brother was on.

So unless it turns out Prince was on a really high dose against his GP's advice I wouldn't put it down to "drugs"
Unfortunately it seems that in America/show business there are doctors that will prescribe dangerous levels of medication without proper instruction or supervision to big names.

*Simvastatin is one, you don't want to consume grapefruit whilst on it, as there is a reaction that whilst minor in many cases, it can be much worse in some.

Yea, America has a huge problem of addiction to 'painkillers' which is just a softer way of saying 'drugs' and the doctors involved are just being legalised drug dealers.

Hell, they mentioned on the news that 'painkiller' is 50 times stronger than Heroin

You want to get your rocks off? Why bother with the natural stuff when the pharmaceutical version is so much better

When I mentioned to my wife (who's a nurse) that prescription meds kill more Americans than illegal drugs, she says it always makes her shudder when she's watching some US TV or movie, and someone just guzzles the painkillers. It's like "Bad headache? Take four times the recommended dose! Crunch them up so the drug hits you faster!".

It's as if Americans are encouraged think there is no such thing as an overdose, that if one pill is good, then three or four is better.

'Painkillers' generally means opiates prescribed your friendly Hollywood drug dealer, sorry Doctor.

In all fairness its not just Hollywood, a lot of docs over in the States will prescribe you what you tell them what you think you need, cos they're making lots of money off you being there. Let alone if you're someone famous !!!! A doc who doesn't prescribe you what you ask for, is a doctor that will probably never be seeing you again.

I was prescribed some Percocets after a vasectomy. Not knowing anything about them, i banged two, worried about the pain i'd be in once the anesthetic wore off. Man, i can tell you now i was on cloud 9, thinking hey no-one should be this happy after having their nuts cut into !!!!

Went back for some more ! :) Doc gave me a funny look, and wrote me another prescription. This was a few yrs ago mind. Don't take 'em anymore tho as the side effects are worse than any pain you maybe going thru. But i could see how someone could get easily addicted.

I'd never heard of Fentanyl until now, and I wish I hadn't for obvious reasons - Prince must have been in a lot of pain to even be considering such a drug.

Watching him dance makes me kind of wish he hadn't done so much of it - it was wonderful to witness at the time, but I'd rather he was still alive and just moved like a normal pop star of the era. So tragic, behind the scenes he must have been pretty desperate.
