RIP Stephen Gately

but most likely alcohol poisoning, or got drunk passed out and ended up swallowing his own tongue or something else equally unpleasant.

either way, I highly doubt it was drugs or suicide, just a tragic accident IMO

Because alcohol is magic fairy juice not a drug?

So he died due to drugs will you be apologising now? ;)

Choke in your own drunken vomit? seriously, I've puked a few times being stupidly drunk, never came close to choking. It might be possible but very rare, I still reckon he was taking more than alcohol. Looking at celebs like Hendrix who died the same way, he was taking sleeping pills.

So much for the squeaky clean media image knip was sold, never underestimate the power of the media to paint a fluffy-bunny disneyesque picture.

I still blame

Sorry but having watched this morning which had his laywer on I think more than ever people need to wait for the autopsy.

Choking on his own vomit was my first thoughts.
Its cerftainly NOT that uncommon. My friend died that way after a heavy night out on the ale. He was kind of a celebrity in Nottingham and was given full front page of the Nottingham Evening Post. His nickanme was, ironically...RIP! (i poo you not) I also know a few other people who knew people who died that way.

Anyway, it is sad, he did seem like a nice boy. I'm not gay or owt, but he seemed to keep himself to himself (and his mr i guess).
This morning, i heard on the news that he was reported leaving a club with a belgium fella the night he died.
So....are there are possible mysterious circumstances?

RIP Stephen, and only 33 too :(

Post of the thread and couldn’t have said it better myself.

My nephew, Gavin Elliott was shot and killed in Helmand 4 weeks ago. He got about 5 mins coverage total on the news, his funeral got another 5 mins.

Same applies just about all of our boys dying for their country in that hellhole.

Gately's death has already easily clocked 2+ hours coverage today alone, celebrity culture really is the thing that needs to die here.

I personally believe that every time one of our brave boys dies it should be the main headline of all news programmes/websites/papers. Maybe that way the government would realise how many of our men are dying, and that far more men and better resources are needed to get the job finished properly.

Lol you know for certain he died doing something with drink or drugs when it's not a family member or friend but his bloody lawyer doing the media rounds.

I find it disturbing that the 'powers that be' have felt the need to sanitise this thread without reference to the original posts. I agree that posts which are downright rude or disrespectful to the dead probably have no place in an 'RIP' thread but some of the puns on offer were neither rude nor disrespectful. In fact, my own 'It's only words' retort to Dark_Angel's post was meant as a respectful reference to one of Boyzone's more well known records and an attempt to difuse some of the bickering that was building up.

In our nation's society we have a long and highly regarded history of gallows humour and laughing in the face of adversity. The ability to see the lighter side of a tradgedy is something that has seen us, as a nation, ride out Nazi bombing, domestic terrorism, financial meltdown and unfit government. Without it we would risk being reduced to an overly sentimental sobfest of a nation or a whining, "life's so hard being me", victim culture

Brucie was right, we should have a bit more of a sense of humour ove these things and stop taking offence on other people's behalf.

perhaps I could have phrased better..but I just got back from a long weekend in barcelona and we managed a damn sight more than one 8 hour session without death!

Amen! Some people around here seriously need to lighten up a bit and get a sense of humour!

Yeah rest in peace but urm this is like keith ledger, people die and its not the most important thing in the word to the people close to them. My sympathies go to those close to him but to the general public we shouldn't go crazy

Who's keith Ledger?

Shame about the boyzone guy but one of them posted in their blog me and the boyz" yes spelt with a Z

rest in peace

Perhaps it would be better just to ban RIP threads or give them their own forum.
