I heard this this morning on the BBC breakfast news. I've got to admit I'm am absolutely gutted. It surprises me that I feel quite so desolated by the loss of a man I have never met. As several others have mentioned, I assumed that he'd finally run out of luck with one of the croc (I always feared that he'd slip on the grass during one of his "leap back as the croc rushes" escapades) but to die from a stingray barb?! I can't help but feel that all he probably thought as he died was for his family and the poor animal that he scared so much. He just seemed like that kind of guy.
On a personal note, I'm also deeply saddened because I had intended to take my 6month old son Ryan to Australia in a few years and visit Australia Zoo to see the legend at work. Sadly, this can now never happen.
R.I.P. Steve. Our thoughts are with your family. We'll try to keep up your good work & example.
