RIP Steve Wright

Proper shocked by this, Coxy was in absolute pieces on the wireless straight after it was announced. Love him or loathe him, he was massive in UK and the first to bring zoo radio over here. I thought he was younger than 69.

Sunday morning love songs is usually on in the background, and as cheesey as it is, it usually plays some crackers.

Won't be the same without him :(

As cheesy as his show was, I still enjoy it a lot. Old school DJ.
No doubt the BBC will now do all sorts of nonsense about celebrating his time with them despite having clearly giving him the heave ho recently.

What a shock, that seems out of the blue! :(

Loved Steve Wright in the afternoon, listened to it for years from the late 90's.

At one point it was the thing to listen to when Radio 1 was ok before it went totally by the wayside along with his show and on Radio 2 it was instant switch off.

UZI 9mm.

Sad news. He was an icon of 80s broadcasting. :(

There was a porter at work with the exact same name, and every time he announced himself on the walkies I'd reply with '...in the afternoon'. :D

Blimey, grew up with Steve Wright really, and certainly through my teenage years I was a daily listener.

I had to Google to make sure Simon Mayo is still alive after reading this!

Nothing about being ill in the bbc article, so it's maybe a sudden death, like heart attack.
From the reaction of Sara Cox on Radio 2 and from Simon Mayo on GHR, this was very unexpected. Hadn’t he just had a new show announced?

Usually, not always, no cause of death means suicide.
That’s speculation we don’t need.
