Risen 2 - Official!

First one was good but got a little tiresome with how many lizards you had to kill looking forward to the second as I really like the story

The trailer looks good, I seem to be looking at rpg's allot waiting for DKS to go on offer seeing as it's apparently only available from digital distribution in the UK.

I only played through risen once as I borrowed it from a mate, went bandit and didn't pick it up for myself because of the story always ending the same no matter which route you picked. Looks like the cannon version didn't become a mage either.

Does it have a proper first person? The lack of that ruined the first. And every other RPG. OTS is a horrible way of playing, and the perfect immersion-breaker.

Agreed, great game, can't wait. So nice to still have games that need thought, planning and patience (along with running away in good old Monty Python tradition!) rather than the relentless clickfests that the wider console world has often thrust upon us PC gamers (though thinking back games like Diablo, though great, started that trend).

The World of Risen Forums have an update from Deep Silver on copy protection in Risen 2: Dark Waters, saying the upcoming pirate-themed action/RPG sequel will use Steamworks in all territories to secure their game (thanks Shacknews). He outlines the priorities that lead to this decision, saying they sought a system providing a combination of security, compatibility, comfort, support, and reliability. Here's the outline of how the game's DRM will work:
Steam offers an automated update system which allows all customers to play the latest version of Risen 2 since all patches will be delivered automatically to their PC. Steam has been running stable on millions of PCs out there, so it provides the reliability we need. The digital copy of Risen 2 will also not require two different copy protections on Steam (compared to Risen 1).

Risen 2 will be playable without a DVD in the drive if the product has been added to a Steam account (Steam accounts are free) and will be available for download on other PCs if you’re on the move and still want to play Risen 2. The Steam account itself has been further fortified by the optional Steam Guard system which adds another layer of security. Steam also offers a big array of community features: chats, game groups, achievements and the player can even upload up to 1000 screenshots to share his/her experience in the world of Risen 2. All those features convinced us that Steam offers the right package of features, reliability and security for us.

Naturally we also wanted to keep the restrictions, which are part of any copy protection, as unobtrusive as possible. You will only be required to be online once – to link your game to your Steam account and afterwards you will be able to play offline and without DVD in the drive. You will also be able to install Risen 2 from your Steam account on as many systems you like.

I liked the first Risen. Not as good as Gothic 1 and 2 but it was ok. I didn't mind the combat system, but they need to work on better ending this time

I've been enjoying German made RPGs for awhile now, Drakensang, Risen, Divinity 2 and some others, its unfortunate many go under the radar and not well known, great rpgs to play.

As we’ve already covered the preview here and will undoubtedly get a more extensive hands-on as the release date grows nearer, I’ll save the more in depth coverage for nearer the time and leave you with our interview with Daniel Oberlerchner – a gentleman, a scholar and, from what I heard through the grapevine, an acrobat. Risen 2 will be hitting the shelves in the first half of 2012… buy it, or you’ll be walking the plank! Risen 2 will undoubtedly be my top RPG for 2012.

The release date for Piranha Bytes' upcoming cRPG Risen 2: Dark Waters has been officially announced. It is April 27th for the PC, with the console releases coming on May 22nd in North America and May 25th in Europe.

Risen 2: Dark Waters will be available on April 27, 2012 for Windows PC, on May 22, 2012 in the USA and Canada and on May 25, 2012 in European countries for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®3.

Risen 2: Dark Waters will be available via digital distribution for PC, and for both PC and consoles as a retail version, as well as a Collector’s Edition in certain territories.
Additionally, here's an interview on IncGamers.

IG: Risen 2 does away with a mini-map and the Fable-style in-game line telling you where to go. That’s a different approach from the one most RPGs of this type are now taking, are you worried that some players may find the going tough? Or is that aimed squarely at hardened RPG players?

PB: The game is definitely a hardcore RPG and is very classical in nature, but we have introduced some devices to make navigation slightly easier. We save all the dialogue for you to go back and look and see whether or not an NPC told you to go somewhere that you didn’t pick up on.

You can also put points on your map for certain missions to make it easier for you to navigate. We didn’t want to overcrowd the HUD with looks of mini-maps etc, it was very much a case of making immersion as strong as possible. There’s also an option to fast travel to previously visited locations.

I don’t think players will have too much trouble in adapting to the game, though. Once you start playing you’ll very quickly pick up on how the world works and how everything fits together.
