We should keep this thread open. Risen is a very demanding game, that will be a good benchmark for some of the upcoming ATI 6 series and Nvidia's Fermi.
As for the below quote...
That appears to be very wrong.
Specs:
Core2duo o/c 3.2ghz
ATI 4890 o/c slightly i forget the exact figure
8gb ram
Vista ultimate 64 with sp1
1920x1200, max settings, 8xAA, 16xAF, everything set to quality in the control panel
Catalyst 9.10 rc 6
50-100 fps depending on the area im in.
Only annoyance is i get extreme whining from my card when i go into the game menu or quest log, weird.
The only thing wrong here, is your fibbing.
-I take it you changed the executable name, in order to get the AA to work at the driver level correct? You knew that right?
-Why are you running driver level AF when the game offers it internally?
-You haven't spoken about any .ini adjustments : Object culling, shadow map, SSAO, etc.
50-100fps? That's a fair representation, IF you're staring at a wall, or down in a dungeon.
Even with a 5xxx card, at the settings you propose, you'd be averaging 35-40sh frames during the daytime hours when running about the open world, and 30-40 at night, especially moving through towns and villages. About the only time you get a consistent 45-55sh is in secluded areas.
The thread author claimed to get 35-40 tops, and I suspect that's an average he observed when roaming the outdoor areas. Which, kinda sounds about right.
The game is both CPU and GPU intensive. As well as it should be, in some areas, it looks like you're playing Crysis.
