Some of my acquaintances are off kayaking/canoeing the river Wye - forgot that exists did it many years ago Symonds Yat is a pretty cool place to stop for lunch, etc. not sure what the situation is with just casual use of the river though. Plus some other rivers I'd forgotten about.
