RMA Problem with Gigayte (via distributer)

Nowhere does it say they're claiming misuse just that the OP should have spotted the damage within 7 days.

Irrelevant now anyway - see the post by GIGA-Man.

Missed that bit myself :o. Good result in this instance, but I have come across many in which my point does still apply!

Now that Giga response is the reason I like buying a product from a UK based RMA centre. Gigabyte are the only one that have this as far as I know, Motherboards that is.

And before anyone says I am a fan boy or something I own more ASUS benching boards than I do Gigabyte boards. But I have had to wait 9 weeks for one of my Rampage Extreme boards to be RMA'd last year. And it cost me a fortune for postage to the RMA centre that is in some obscure European country. But I only waited 3 days for my RMA from Milton Keynes to be done on my P67-UD5 board in July. Big difference in turn around time.

I really wish that more vendors had a local RMA centre.

It's not so bad if your rich and own an Asus product or any other with crap RMA system - simply buy a new board and wait for the RMA to come back and sell it I suppose - not the best scenario.

I had this very same problem with a Biostar Tpower I55, the distributor - Target Components rejected the RMA and also the Retailer beginning with letter N refused RMA.

I rang consumer direct/trading standards, they said if I had paid via Visa you can claim money back within 12 months of purchase.

I sent the retailer in question a letter stating the sales of goods act and it was upto them to prove it within the first 6 months, ended up a comprimise of paying 50% towards a new motherboard or a refurbished alternative board.

I don't care what anyone says, these Intel Sockets are no way as good as AMD sockets, the pins are flimsy - I worry like hell when I have to install a new motherboard now and incase the new owner damages the socket and claims it was like it when recieved.

OK this is not about OCUK but another retailer.

Would appreciate some input from the GB rep on these forums and some other members.

I received a Z68-UD4 in late June. I have some other threads on here about some of the problems I have had with it. However I percevered with the board until finally the NIC died and I sent ii off for RMA.

Just been told that they have rejected the RMA because the board has a bent pin (it does they sent me a picture). The board was sent back with the cap on so this has not happened in transit nor is it something I spotted when I first received the board, so I am claiming that the board must have been manufactured with a bad socket.

The company do not disagree that I may have received the board with a dodgy socket however they are telling me that I should have inspected the board properly within the first seven days to determine if the socket was damaged. If I spotted this in the first seven days they would have provided a replacement.

Now I didn't examine the socket when I received the board I simply put my cpu in and the board (usually) posted. In fact the board worked perfectly fine (and still does) once it posts, so I never had any reason to think the board damaged. Like many people on the web I assumed this was just a bios issue.

I'm going to write to the cmpany in question and dispute this but from talking to them they say that they understand the problem but the issue is that GB will not honour the warranty for a damaged socket after seven days.

I've not contacted GB yet but will do today. Anybody had any similar problems and/or resolution?

cheers

They are utter scumbags this retailer. Did exactly the same thing to me. I am starting to think they deliberately break boards as this is getting way too common. I was told I should have noticed when the item was shipped (didnt open the board for another week as was not an urgent build) and that " if I had taken scansure I would not have a problem."

Since that incident they have had zero pounds and pence of my money, still makes me angry!!!

You see it a lot on there forums in relation to this, to be fair to them they are not the only retailer who would take up this stance like I mentioned when it happend to me.

How many other retailers would reject RMA for bent/broken socket pins, I am sure even OcUK would - the best solution is to just buy AMD rigs I suppose or claim on house insurance - £50 excess.

Hopefully Intel will swallow there pride one day and use a similar design socket to AMD's which is better!

All good advice other than the AMD part of it. :p

I may upset a few people here please don't take it personally but in my experience most bent pins are (knowingly or unknowingly) caused by the end user. I have only ever seen three boards with bent pins from the factory. Unless the pins have been properly mashed or broken you can normally stroke them back into place.

Yeh they were very helpful, good comms and sorted out some problems when I couldn't get it delivered the first three times:)

secong letter 'c', if its scan then i had exactly the same problem with my Rampage 3 gene. I didnt bend the pins and they would not accept it, terrible customer service, had to go else where to get another gene mobo. still got the faulty one here at home :(

I got my first x-fi from them, years ago at launch. Showed up looking like someone sat on it but they helpfully told me that they were "capacitors" that were meant to look like that (yeh, quotation :D). Needless to say I regretted not using a cc and being able to charge back in then end. Their returns back then, as multiple former employees have pointed out, was there simply to drag things out as long as possible to prevent a return.

Still, gigabytes uk rmas are excellent and scams returns cost them 5 years of my business :p

Glad its all sorted for you dazzerd and this is a perfect example where having a UK RMA centre really makes the difference and allows us to sort issues out quickly, plus you didn't get hit with those oversea shipping costs :)
